Ohhh, also, I am very much looking forward to Terry's thoughts and Robbie and Garrett's reactions to Facets next week! I wish Armin would be there too because I'd love his thoughts on his role in that episode, but I suppose he had a pretty short scene so I guess it makes sense that he won't be in the podcast episode. Gonna be a fun one, though, I bet!

2025-05-09 14:50:14 +0000 UTCI have a lot of thoughts on this episode and I need to throw them out to y'all, so buckle up, friends! I've never been able to buy the idea of Shakaar as a romantic interest for Kira, but that's because the actor unfortunately has always seemed creepy to me ever since he played the creepy candle ghost in TNG (bleccch - Dr Crusher is my favorite ST character and it makes me mad that they didn't give her better storylines; naturally the ghost one is the worst, but she also deserved a lot more episodes focused on her than she got...anyway, I digress). I have a similar feeling towards Ralph Fiennes...no matter how many romantic lead parts he gets, I still can't see him as anything but an evil Nazi as I first saw him in Schindler's List. I also love Armin's passing comment about the lack of chemistry between Kira and Shakaar - I agree with him on that, but in my case it might also have to do with my feelings about the actor. I disagree a little bit with Armin, though, about his thoughts on Kai Winn. She's supposed to be a creepy bad guy, although I suppose Louise could have played her a little more like the way Marc Alaimo plays Dukat, and the way a lot of actors play their "bad guy" character, as if they were the good guys and the "good guys" in the show/movie are the villains. I don't see that Louise plays Winn that way, but maybe she does a little bit. I love Lupaza and Furel. I know they come back for another episode or two, but I really wish they'd gotten full-on recurring guest status. Another missed opportunity, same way I feel about Keiko, who should have been a full cast member or at least gotten the same level of treatment as Rom and Nog. Not related to this episode per se but I love the episode of VOY that Sherman Howard appeared in, and I have always loved that line and his delivery when Tom Paris says to him that he hasn't denied any challenges and he says, "I haven't made one yet." Fantastic delivery, with a perfect smile to go along with it. Anyway, that's all I've got for today, kittens! Thanks for the excellent review and for reminding me that I love DS9 and all of you wonderful podcast hosts!
