Comments

I would have kept the first part of the opening scene where O'Brien talks to his old friend, but I would have had Odo discover the audio recording on him much later in the episode to delay the reveal.

Alicia Stolp

Ratings Robbie: 4. "This was definitely NOT my favorite episode." Robbie is critical of many of Avery Brooks' directorial decisions and the episode "structure" which he calls "bumpy," and he says there is poor "shot-making." This is Robbie's lowest rating of any episode so far. Terry says Robbie knows too much for his own good here, too much about directing. Terry: 6.5. She is happy that the story made more sense and was more "balanced" than S2E4 (Collaborator). She adds it was "not a great episode, but it was great getting to know [O'Brien]'s character better." Garrett: 6. He says he is happy about getting backstory about Cardassia and O'Brien/Keiko character/romantic development. Patreon patrons/fans: 7.6. All three express shock at this high rating and the big gap with their scores. Robbie, Terry, and Garrett's average rating is 5.5. The gap with the Patreon fans is over 2 full points, an unusually big gap. Terry suggests, half-jokingly, that there are enough voting Patreon fans who really like the romantic part of the plot ("kissing in the Runabout") that it pumped up the score to such an unjustly high level. 1:18:00 -- 1:20:40

Yule Tide

They are - geckos/ lizards are reptiles, not amphibians, so they would be land only

Emily Walker

Not Googled, but amphibians surely live on land and in water… I thought geckos were land only?

RichardBJ@hotmail.com

The title of this podcast doesn't have the episode number (225, I think), which may make it harder to search for people in future.

Yule Tide

Wow - I’d not spotted this. Absolutely makes sense now! Thanks!

Emily Walker

I completely disagree with Robbie and Terry’s opinion on the opening scene. To me DS9 had a lot of focus on fleshing out and expanding the different Species in the Alpha Quadrant, so to me this episode is about giving us this glimpse into Cardassian Culture and Society. The mystery isn’t the point it’s the “trial”, a trial that the state has already decided the truth about. I feel that’s why the writers reveal us the truth right at the beginning in a reverse of us as the viewer knowing the truth similar how to everyone on Cardassia believes the truth the State tells them.

Holden Schlage

Might the low rating be revised?

sgtb99

I highly doubt the Cardassians care about missing teeth.

sgtb99

Colm Meany is a multiple award-winning actor. When he worked on Deep Space 9, they wanted him to ACT.

sgtb99

This was a good episode, not a fan of the ratings.

sgtb99

The idea that you guys weren’t happy with the reveal at the beginning with boon is Ironic in that in the Cardassian justice system the verdict is always known before the trial so in some way the reveal of the answer from the start kept in line with the theme of a Cardassian trial.

Andre Perry

Thanks

Juno

Hi Juno, the audio portion does not include the reaction video segment, so the audio version of an episode on Patreon will be slightly shorter than the video.

Garrett

Admin, why is the video 2:02 and the audio 1:52???

Juno

Robbie—Nick Saban’s birthday is on Halloween.

Chase

Additionally, geckos are actually a type of lizard (yeah, I Googled it too 🦎)

Emily Walker

I liked that the shots were jarring and kind of off putting because it fits with what we know about Cardassia, and it fits with the situation. Court is a jarring, confusing, and disorienting situation that isn't normal.

Carly Brown

People pronounce things differently.

sgtb99

Armind lol oh Terry made me laughd;-)

Mark K

I took the train to move to NYC too!! Then when I left 16 yrs later, I left my train 😍

Joanne Morton, Positive Energy Artist

Going through the same thing with my knee Terry. The wisdom at this age is great but the pain SUCKS!

sgtb99

FYI- I Googled it: “Reptiles have scales, while amphibians have thin, smooth skin. Snakes, turtles, and lizards are reptiles. Frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts are amphibians.”
