Ratings Robbie: 8.0. "I like this episode a lot" but "it was a quick finish. Armin: 7.0. On the positive side the episode had "brilliant acting, beautiful shots by [director] David Livingston," and it's "self-referential." But Armin says "most good Star Trek deals with social issues [or] moral issues," and that was lacking in this episode. "It would make a great Star Wars movie; it's not Star Trek." Nana Visitor: 8. She agrees with Armin that it feels more like Star Wars. But she likes that it's a mirror-universe with violence and slavery, which "highlight[s]...what Deep Space Nine and Star Fleet isn't." It "is a looking-glass for our world...It's a negative of a photograph." Garrett: 8.3. He says he "adores" this type of episode with mirror-universes. Patreon patrons/fans: 7.5. Unusually, Garrett's rating has the furthest gap with the fans. 1:49:40

Yule Tide

Hasn’t been in an episode yet…..

Brian Beirne

How was it?

Yule Tide

And played a Klingon as a buffoon. Quite possibly the worst portrayal of Klingon in Star Trek history.

ST Fan CB

This was the payoff from Dramatis Personae's "Plotting Kira." I felt that prior episode was practice for playing the Intendant here. Well done Nana. I also wanted to mention that John Corthan Jr. played the same Klingon in the TNG episode "The Chase," in the Alpha Universe. He notably asked Worf to die as a warrior along him and challenged Data to a test of strength.

Ryan Wagner

Etymology! Germanic languages are highly compounded. So when we see a compounded word like "crossover" is is usually Old English or Old English with a compound from another language. Probably French and Old English origin for "crossover". I am in reading intervention, so this is kinda my thing.

Carly Brown

Ohhhhh, man. I didn't see that. He's probably still an ensign, too. 🤣

Elisabeth Westner

All I'll say in response to the concern about Smiley's ending in this episode is... hold on. He's not just joining a group of "space pirates"

Jeremy Sessions

I LOVE LOVE LOVE NANA!!! She is so lovely... as a fan having had the chance to spend time with her, I was so lucky, it was such a joy. Honestly one of the absolute best memories of my entire life. This podcast is everything, I sincerely hope it never ends. Honestly Nana should have been on the next episode too, her performance with Secretary "Coobis" was very satisfying.

Chris Flores

So happy Nana is on this week’s episode! Her book is fantastic!❤️

Garrett Wang/Harry Kim listed as a‘Notable Guest’ for Lower Decks Season 5! Can’t wait! Premieres October 24!

Brian Beirne

What an absolute delight this discussion was. Nana Visitor was tremendous as Major Kira but I just love the way she played the Intendant so deliciously in the mirror episodes. Thank you, Nana for appearing here. And I preordered your book months ago and was so excited to receive it - wonderful read!

Vicky Thompson

Now every time I see Visitor in the credits I’ll be thinking of the story she told I think about her brother giving her the name, boy was he right!

Mark K

I loved having Nana on again! Can't believe she won't be back next week for the Collaborator. Oh well. Also, that dress is *definitely* purple.

Elisabeth Westner

I loved that so much and doubly so because my birthday is tomorrow so I pretended they were singing it to me.

Elisabeth Westner

I appreciate Garrett's lesson about taking time to listen to someone - especially since I've seen him do it at conventions with random strangers. Thank you Garrett for being so approachable and kind!

Marcy Beard

Omg EVIL NANA!!!! I love it!!!! 💕💕💕

Eleanor Berton

I can't wait to hear Robbie and Garrett's reaction to the next mirror universe episode 😉

Bryan Bugaj

Enjoyed this discussion a lot and came away wishing this episode would have been conceived of as a 2-parter. That worked so well with ENT’s “In a Mirror, Darkly.”

Andrew Cano

As I was rewatching the episode I hoped Armin would provide an etymology for 'intendant'. And he did! Yay!

Tracey Abla

Wondering if Nana is planning on recording a audio book version of her book. :)

Sherri Benner

Also I do think Kira has an arc. The purpose is that it shows who Kira could become under a different set of circumstances. Physically she is the same as the intendant. Her experiences are the only thing different. The Intendant is supposed to show Kira a hidden side to herself.

Mark K

Omg the birthday song was so funny. Leave it to Nana to bring the laughs!

Mark K

Love that Nana joined as well this week! What a great surprise. Also, for Armin’s title definitions: I actually think that the title “crossover” does suit the metaphorical changing train tracks definition… just like sliding doors or the butterfly effect, this mirror world is like the train changing course due to Kirk’s interference.
