Ok, I'm way behind on my DF eps (but catching up quickly!). I was thrilled to hear Armin describe how they rehearsed the scene in Kira's quarters all day without filming it. That scene is probably my favorite DS9 scene of all time. I remember loving it when it first aired and loving it when I rewatched the show recently and was really looking forward to Robbie's reaction to the scene. Good on Corey for doing it that way and the heck with Berman for not liking it. It really really paid off. And since I had taped this ep off of the tv when it originally aired, I could've sworn that Frank Langella was credited in the original airing but would they have removed that from later digital versions? All I know is, I'd never heard of him until seeing his name in the credits for these eps so how would I have learned who he was if he weren't in the credits??

The thing about Bareil and Kira: here's my interpretation. Imagine that your gods, who you believe are trying to tell you an important message, show you being intimate with someone you barely know and haven't developed feelings for, but then circumstances bring you back together. You don't think that might be a little weird?

Alicia Stolp

Catherine, this episode clearly is going down the road of the vulnerability of nations (planets) that are in extreme instability and the deviousness of those who would do anything to gain power.

ChrisB

Mark I agree with you. Not sure where all this “creepy” stuff is coming from.

ChrisB

I agree it would have been nice to hear more about the Circle’s motivations, but surely the idea of a civil was after an occupying power withdraws isn’t surprising? As for the Circle saying they’re for Bajorans & then fighting them, I’m sure we can all think of examples of people saying they’re patriotic & calling anyone who disagrees an enemy of the people. (That literally happened in my country during Brexit.)

Catherine Green

The one with the cheese!

I haven’t watched this episode in several months but I would say having watched is several times before I never thought the whole Bariel seen was that weird. I thought he was trying to get Kira to open her mind. However, maybe I’ll go back and watch it to see it from your perspectives. Perhaps my memory is coloured by my future knowledge of Bariel and Kira’s interactions.

Mark K

I’m so glad they thought the scene with Bariel was weird. I don’t remember him as a creepy character but when I rewatched this episode I was getting big “powerful religious leader taking advantage of vulnerable member of the congregation” vibes which I’m sure isn’t what they were aiming for!

Catherine Green

Thank you for the shout out to Cosmo Genovese! He was also sometimes the script supervisor on the old Perry Mason show! Long, long career. Good guy.

Being a Buffy and Armin fan, I had to share the episode that he mentions Season 4, episode 22 "Restless" ✌️🥰
