This DS9 episode is similar to the Voyager episode "Repression" (Oct. 2000). Odo and Tuvok have similar roles, respectively, in trying to bridge the gap between warring factions and using deception until things can get resolved. The interesting thing is a rogue Bajoran plays a key role in the Voyager "Repression" episode (using mind control to incite Maquis to revolt), an interesting cross-series tie-in. Maybe even a direct homageby late Voyager to this much-earlier DS9 episode. Meanwhile, DS9's final episode aired June 1999. The Voyager story idea for "Repression" --- so similar in plot to DS9's "Dramatis Personae" (1993), and with the Bajoran tie-in --- would have been pitched around the time DS9 wrapped up its run or in coming months. Ken Biller had a strong hand in the Voyager "Repression" story, in addition to being showrunner for Season 7. Voyager might have had more Maquis--Starfleet rivalry if he or someone else had been empowered to do so from the start. One criticism people make of Voyager is there was so little of that rivalry. DS9 had more sense of these disparate groups being present on the station, with different interests or outlook.

On the clock, I suspect since this prop is seen in Sisko's office for the duration of the show, someone in the props department found this awesome looking mechanical clock and had the writers write it into the story so it would fit as an office set piece and not this random object sitting in his office.

Yes 💯

So that’s the brilliance of Rene as Odo because he was able to emote with all that make up on his face and he did it through the eyes. You could see everything in Odo’s eyes. It was a brilliant seven year performance.

Bashir even got himself a seat on the bridge of the Defiant - all the other Star Trek doctors know they had to be in sickbay if a fight was going on! I always wanted to yell at him “stop messing about and check on your patients!”

Love the podcast as always. I would give this episode a 7. It was missing something but for a Season 1 episode I enjoyed it. I loved seeing all the actors being able to act in different tones. Also by far the winner of this episode was Quark in a neck brace. I was absolutely cracking up especially when Quark chased after Odo showing he wasn’t quite as hurt as he was acting. Armin and Renes on screen chemistry is so wonderful.

There was a meme running around about Bashir not being in sickbay. Usually it was Sisko or Kira asking Bashir "Why aren't you in your area?" Whenever he was in OPs.
