Jake scenes are great as are all Miles scenes

Harmony through Time Mighty Mouse

Also, the Dal’Rok was a Tulpa!

SnazzyO

Jake/Nog oatmeal scene is genuinely funny. And Badger/O’Brien team up is awesome. Much higher rating for me. A 7.

SnazzyO

Well that list was whack. Dax is awesome but no one beats Paris. Not even Sulu. Paris designed the Delta Flyer. And flew through so much more danger than anyone else on that list.

I enjoyed the winners and losers discussion because I usually skip this episode on reruns specifically because of the silly Dalrock portion of the story. In fact, I’d forgotten the cute Varys portion. The Dalrock story is illogical; there is no explanation as to why it came into existence, and particularly on Bejor, a planet whose religion does not jive with this crazy story. Why not make a connection? Where are the Prophets in this? There is no explanation for its existence until the end, and the comedy ends up making it stupid (along with its appearance, which IS like a marshmallow!). It’s like a myth in the middle of reality. It doesn’t work.

I think it's the other way around, lol! 🤣

Jen V

He seems to like DS9 better than Voyager so far!

Jen V

I don't know, but it sure seems like it! I would like confirmation on that as well.

Random question that I thought of hearing "Trixian Bubble Juice" - in a classic Bob Newhart routine (The Mrs. Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company), he at one point has his character refer to "our two stewardesses, Trixie and Bubbles." I don't know if that itself was a reference to something, but seems to close to be a mere coincidence. Does anyone know if that was intentionally a reference to the Newhart bit?

Harpo1987

Absolutely loved the Bashir and O'Brien scenes. Looking forward to more of them in the future.

Sierra C

Totally agree with Armin on the marshmallow effect on the Dal'rok. The irony is they probably spent a good deal of money making that effect, all for it to look so ridiculous in the end.

Jeremy Sessions

How did they ever get the idea that the rods are liquid?

MG

When I first saw DS9, I assumed the initial dislike O'Brien had for Bashir was some sort of Irish/English thing.

https://www.dailystartreknews.com/read/top-five-friday-best-star-trek-pilots Totally unrelated to this weeks episode, but I thought everybody would get a kick out of this article. What do you think of the rankings?

ChrisB

Loved the Stargate SG-1 reference from Armin, aside from Trek, that's probably my and my wife's favorite sci-fi show/franchise. 😬

Ness61503

Yes, it's one of a few segments I miss. Even if Armin/Terry aren't interested, Garrett and Robbie could still do something. The Voyager after-credit scenes were a lot of fun.

Jeremy Taylor

One: Armin spoils too much. Two Garek doesn’t replace Miles at all….

Chris

So funny to hear Robbie mention Vincent Minelli A Star is Born. I just finished a biography of Judy Garland (his ex wife) and a video comparing the versions of A Star is Born in the past couple weeks. Love the review/recap.

Jen B

Robbie gave this an 8? I admit, I enjoyed it, but at this rating, he's going to give so many episodes in later seasons 10.0+

Eddie Roseberry

I miss the after credit scenes. We need to get Triple Fiction Productions to donate a Quarks bar playset so these guys can all play with their figures again!

This Podcast discussion has made me learn several things about "The Storyteller", such as it was loosely based/or inspired by Rudyard Kipling's "The Man Who Would Be King". I liked the character development of Varis Sul, how she starts out as seemingly proud and uncooperative, but then you see why she is like this - Varis is an orphan and is trying to be a great leader like her late father was, though she has very few friends around her age because of it. I felt that Jake and Nog provided Varris a chance to experience life as a kid. One scene that I thought was really important that Garrett, Robert and Armin didn't delve into was Captain Sisko and Varis Sul's exchange - Varis: "You don't lose by saying no." Sisko: "Maybe, but a great leader - like your father - is one willing to risk saying yes." I felt that was the line where Varris puts two-and-two together through her interactions with Jake and Nog and Sisko's advice. I think that scenes of Jake and Nog being reprimanded weren't included because the writers felt that these scenes would slow the episode down and take away the true social message in the second A story. I agree with Professor Shimerman, Robert and Garrett about the Dal'Rok's design... I didn't really buy the Dal'Rok as a threatening entity comprised of the villagers hate (to me, it looks like a faceless Stay Puft Marshmellow Man). However, I do like the concept of the Dal'Rok being the village's collective hatred personified and that the Storyteller Sirah is rallying the people to fight against the collective hate. I feel that the Dal'Rok can also be a metaphor of the unrest we are experiencing today and that we need to set our differences aside, overcoming hate with harmony.

Kay E. Kuter played Alain Viso on Beauty & the Beast all 3 seasons. Armin must have not worked with him.

ChrisB

Gotta disagree with Armin tho, to quote Saru "Starfleet DOESN'T fire first!!"

Tashicat

Terry rubbed off on Robbie LOLOL now hes callin the station "the ship"

Tashicat

Kay Kuter who played que sirah, sirah what ever will be, will be was also in an episode of ST:TNG. Lawrence Monoson who played Hovath was in an episode of ST:ENT "Fortunate Son" as the 1st Officer of a freighter. Bashir and O'Brien have a bromance all the way through the series. Come on man Armin's quote of "the young do not always do what they are told" is from an episode of Stargate SG1 "The Nox" in which he was a guest star. Nog states that he has one of his father's security rods. This clearly dispels any previous notions about them being a liquid filled vial or a mistake in lieu of isolinear chips. Reference the question about if the dagger used was a "standard Bajoran dagger"; why does every Star Trek culture have to have a "standard" blade weapon that we can all identify. There are probably millions of different types of knife designs on Earth. Why don't we have 1 standard knife design so everyone can say, oh that's an Earth dagger? Ridiculous

ST Fan CB

I thought Armin was was generous. I'd give the episode 3/10. I found it hard to keep watching it. I'm so glad season 2 and 3 gets better
