I would love a Harry in command episode maybe a better script

Harmony through Time Mighty Mouse

Thomas Nightingale is the main character of the novel series The Rivers of London from Ben Aaronovitch

May we all keep John's memory in our heats 🙏

Thank you for your service. Human dynamics between people is always tricky.

So Harry DOES get promoted to captain! 😂

The A Plot: Harry should have known better (about micromanaging). I think it was because of how inexperienced the crew was. Not like trained Federation officers. But I’m glad he had the experience and definitely showed grace under pressure. I agree, I wish Neelix had been his helper. Seven would have been more useful on Voyager repairs. But Seven is the Voyager ‘Swiss Army Knife’ so I can see how Janeway was ensuring she got Harry back by sending a solid engineering backup with him. On the B Plot. I’m going to ‘she-share’ (sort of like mansplain but hopefully less patronizing): - I’ve BEEN that female military officer who just wanted to show kindness and support to a male counterpart and wound up surprised by unexpected feelings. I legitimately didn’t think anyone but my husband would see me ‘that way’ plus I would constantly talk about my husband when making idle chat. That was my default ‘I’m happily married and am unavailable’ strategy. Didn’t help. So this episode resonated for me from a B’Elana POV. Note: I watch AFTER the podcast so I can see what the boys are talking about. Except possibly ONE line reading related to the rock climbing (her tone was iffy), B’Elana seemed normal to me. I looked at it as B’Elana realized Icheb being raised by Seven could use a little friendship (as stated) and nothing more. Which boils down to this: as a professional woman in a male dominated field, ‘buddy talk’ can result in surprises. At least it could in the era of this show. Still, Robbie and Garrett BOTH saw ‘flirty’ in this episode when I did not. Which implies the situation is still the same. BTW After my surprises (I had two but one was 35 years older than me and I take no responsibility for that one); I just didn’t generate opposite sex friendships beyond coworkers (ie no inviting to anything other than a meeting). Once I had children, I also never had a ‘surprise.’ Note: I’m not saying B’Elana did anything to wrong, I’m saying ‘buddy talk’ can be misunderstood. I also agree, leaving things with Icheb that way was ill advised. It was done for comedy, but once ‘out there, unambiguous is best.

I too use my hands a lot when I talk. I have had to literally sit on my hands to shut up 😄 I have tried to put my hand waving to good use and am now functional in ASL

I'm just starting to catch up on the podcasts since John passed, so this is the first time I'm seeing this. Thank you all so much for your kind sentiments. John loved being a part of this group, and I am so relieved to have you all as I grieve them. Thank you to Garrett and Robbie (and Megan and Rebecca) for all of your support and kindness.

The big story hole is that the cloak actually does not work. In the first scene with the delta flyer, the Kraylor ship is fired on while cloaked by the Annari ship. If that is the case, then the Kraylor cloak is useless as the Annari can detected it while cloaked and the whole story immediately falls apart. The Kraylor ship is a modified reuse of a Federation Attack Fighter or Maquis Raider. All 3 look very similar.

So Kim finally gets an episode where he is the main focus of the A story but they still manage to get Seven's T&A into the story. Its absolutely crazy how this became the Seven of Nine show in the last 4 seasons. Can't poor Harry Kim just get an episode by himself as many of the other characters have? Here is my hasty count of which character was the lead or co-lead in a given episode so far: Seven - 30 Janeway - 28 Doctor - 22 Paris - 20 Torres - 15 Chakotay - 15 Tuvok - 12 Kim - 12 Neelix - 11 Kes - 8 This does not add up to the total number of episodes so far as many were ensemble leads with no one character standing out. IMO. So a character that wasn't even in the first 3 seasons has more lead or co-lead roles than all the other characters that have been in the show since the beginning. In some cases 2 or 3 times as many. Unbelievable. No wonder Kate Mulgrew was so pissed when she came on the show.

I have only just started watching your reviews in the past week and find it to be a blast.

I was surprised this wasn't rated higher, it's a big episode for Harry's character development and I thought the B storyline was hilarious! I always loved it and I think everything was in character except for B'lanna not pushing it a little harder with telling Icheb he is wrong, I think she would not let it go so easily...but she was a little concerned about hurting his feelings, so I can accept it.

Sorry, just had the time now to watch the episode and heard about Johns passing. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Sad news about John. My condolences to his friends and family.

Unless there is a surprise Season 4, it's a little late for a petition now 😅

Tiffiny Lawrie

Thank you Captain Language Lesson. (said like, "Thank you Captain Obvious")

Don Eitner

I'm really looking forward to Lineage; I really really really hope they've got Roxann on to talk about it because I know she has spoken about it passionately in the past and it's such a huge moment for B'Elanna's personal growth and for their marriage. But I love Shattered too; it's a great episode.

Rach V

I am so confused now. I am a major hand waver when talking; I don't think I can make it through a single sentence without some hand gesticulation. Is that wrong? 😦

Rach V

Also I felt like Harry would have been a more compassionate captain and not so bossy.

Laura Robles

Didn’t Harry say to Seven when he had given up that they should take an escape pod? If they had the delta flyer still, wouldn’t he have said “Let’s take the Delta Flyer back to Voyager.”

Laura Robles

Except that the leadership advice Neelix gives is absolute bunk haha

Craig Drebit

Someone needs to make a petition to get Harry Kim to appear on Picard episode as a captain!

Ines S.

Oh good. Your doing both episodes of flesh and blood next week, that means we're just 2 weeks away from one of my favourites "shattered", not to downplay flesh and blood but shattered as I understand is a fan favourite and you'll see why (assuming you haven't recorded it yet).

bakura

Really sad news about John Espinosa. May he rest in peace 🕊️ Thinking of all his family and friends 🤍

This episode hit really close to home for me this week, because I just had an issue at work where people were accusing me of micro managing. I recently was promoted to a managerial position and I myself have always been a bit of a control freak and have really struggled to not micro manage people, but at the same time, the incidents where I try to give my coworkers free reign to do their jobs, their have been errors or mistakes made so it can be difficult for me at times to trust certain individuals especially when they have proven to not follow my instructions in the past. Lots of lessons to be learned from this episode for me.

The Real Andrew Kim

I know Icheb's crush was suppose to be cute, but this is why boys grow up confused about consent. A much better lesson for him would have been - when a woman says she is not interested in you, a woman is not interested in you. end of story. I don't think for one minute B'ellana wouldn't have set the boy straight.

Stephanie

Tom brushes off Icheb's crush on Be'lanna with a "lets go drag-racing on the holodeck", far more relaxed than the fiercely jealous Neelix over Tom's supposed attraction to Kes in early seasons.

Andrew Murray

Can understand the split of Unimatrix since it was between seasons but even other two-part stories (year of hell or futures end) were still done as individual eps.

Andrew Murray

Harry didn't learn from that night-shift scenario of beaming on board a weapon of mass destruction?

Andrew Murray

the funny thing about gesturing while speaking - it actually works with a character like C3PO - even given Tony Daniels could barely move in the Threepio outfit, somehow he got mannerisms that are now classic Threepio out of that suit,m with voice, and a few arm gestures behind a mask. (Same with Vader, and Chewbacca).

Andrew Murray

I think the "I'm a doctor, not an engineer!" line would be appropriate here given this alien ship is manned by DOCTORS not ENGINEERS and saving Seven seemed the logical action by a doctor to take.

Andrew Murray

they could have just redressed Voyager's set - with different computer screen UI's and made the warp core glow...yellow instead of blue.

Andrew Murray

Icheb should think himself lucky that he's not a Vulcan going through POn-Farr - just ask Vorik.

Andrew Murray

Harry pushes the guy out of his seat and says let me show you. I recall Seven doing that in early days as well, or just doing stuff without asking permission.

Andrew Murray

Robbie said saxophone...I thought Kim played Clarinet.....

Andrew Murray

Icheb is featured? I haven't seen him since the borg children departed some time in early Season 6? Naomi Wildman seems to have vanished too.

Andrew Murray

I think the reason this episode doesn't work for me is that Seven is the absolute LAST person I would EVER take advice from on how to be a team player and treat others with respect. It would've made more sense to have Neelix in that role.

Mary Burch

R.I.P. John Espinosa. Thank you for your friendship! You will be deeply missed! 😞💔

Chris Knapp

i did not really like this episode myself, but i am looking forward to hearing your thoughts :)
