Career Planning
Added 2024-05-27 12:48:32 +0000 UTCOk. Everyone in the crew knows how big a deal Emrys is. He’s the leader, and could probably take the role of captain. Only problem: Emrys doesn’t actually have any ranks in Profession: Sailor, and Curtis doesn’t know dick about ships either. So. What is he going to do on the ship?
Captain - the face of the ship, and the person people will typically assume to be in charge. In charge of maneuvering, navigation, communication, and management of the ship itself. It’s a position of great prestige in the Shackles, and Emrys will need to take the role for at least a few minutes for the sake of mission completion. Don’t worry, it’s not hard for him to pass it on to someone better suited to the role.
Quartermaster - the other highest position of authority on a pirate ship, the Quartermaster has a general veto power on any command given by the captain, intended to serve as a check on his power. Of course, this authority vanishes if the captain is enough of a tyrant and the Quartermaster isn’t respected. On a ship that hasn’t further divided these duties, the quartermaster manages pay, inventory, crew morale, discipline, and boarding parties. It is not unheard of in the Shackles for the quartermaster to be the supreme authority on the ship, especially if they are also the owner. This fits both Curtis the accountant and Emrys the manipulative bastard a bit better than captain.
Ship Wizard - by far the most self directed option with the most spare time. Emrys is a miracle worker and a planar networker; if he keeps doing those things when he is needed, he can do whatever he goddamn pleases. He will also, most likely, spend a lot of his time enchanting magic items.
Chef - never mind, THIS is the most self directed option. Not very prestigious and kinda a weird thing to want to be when you have this much power. Maybe he’s trying to blend into the background?
Landsman: FUCK THE OCEAN. We are LEAVING. Emrys has enough cash to buy a small house on one of the nicer islands and become a magic item salesman. Around half the party would be ok to go along with this plan and probably retire in the same area. Of course, the plot knows where you live…
