What’s the plan?
Added 2024-04-10 13:41:39 +0000 UTCWe have four people missing, and most likely about to get ritually sacrificed to some kind of giant monster if Rowe is to be believed. We’ve got a whole island to search, but it’s probably small enough to walk across in a day. What’s the plan?
Creep along the coastline and try to find the grindylows that way. This would probably require swimming or somehow acquiring a boat, given the steep cliffs.
Climb into the mountains with a spyglass to try to get a better view of the island and maybe spot landmarks we can use for navigation.
Scout in the marshes near where the ship landed, staying relatively safe and focusing on the defense/provision of the ship. Should absolutely be paired with sending outsiders to scout, or we are just leaving Owlbear and the other three to die.
Send summoned outsiders to find the grindylows, survivors, and landmarks we can use. Quick fliers like Dierdre would probably be best for this job, and we would need to have a set rendezvous point so we can meet up efficiently.
Search for Sosima or Aaron Ivey, hoping that they will know where the grindylows are.
Place all our faith into the power of skill checks pulling bullshit information from the ether. Have Rosie make some survival checks to track and just go wherever the dice lead us. The most erratic option but has the potential to be the quickest option by far.
Use two spell slots to resummon Dierdre, as her 3 day contract expired at dusk on the day of the storm. She is a very fast flying fey with incredible stealth skills. She’s not the best brawler but is an established ally with zero chance of backfiring.
Spend two spell slots to summon the strongest creature we can to serve as our muscle. A single Dretch is functionally immune to the normal attacks of a grindylow warrior, and will at least draw out any champions they have. Of course, if anything goes wrong the best case scenario is wasting a third of our spell slots.
Save two slots to summon a Dretch, but don’t call it until we have line of sight on the grindylows. Walking around with a demon is a bit of a faux pas.
Summon a demon, but have it be a quasit instead. They have slightly less offense but more defense, are smarter, and can fly. This makes them great scouts… or assassins. This is technically a more evil act, as summoners literally create a new demon from scratch when they call a quasit for the first time.
Spend two spell slots to summon a Celestial. Angels and such are all about daring rescues, right? Of course they also tend to be slightly more inclined towards defensive and support roles, probably won’t participate in a mutiny, would flatly refuse to work with demons unless compelled, and Curtis wouldn’t be as willing to endanger them. They can also frequently fly, and could do the same scouting trick as Deirdre.
Summon another voidworm. They have exactly the right combination of nigh invulnerability and dickishness that Curtis doesn’t mind sending them into danger, without being literal demons.
Reserve a spell slot for Keep Watch, in case we need to spend the night on the island.

Owlbear, Narwhal Tate, Ratline Rattsberger, and Sivikah. I only really expect people to care about Owlbear much. Narwhal has been a recurring background character who helped when looking for a rez in Goatshead, Ratline has only been mentioned 2-3 times, and Sivikah hasn’t been mentioned by name until this reply right here

2024-04-11 12:03:20 +0000 UTCRemind me how close we were to level up? How feasible is it to push for the level before seeking out the grindylow den? Also, who exactly got kidnapped? I remember owlbear for sure, some dude who was on Plugg's side, I remember he was the one there when Curtis fell from the rigging at night and almost splattered on the ground...
