The Mirror

We don’t have it yet (let’s see what the next few chapters bring…) but that mirror is a pretty powerful and very importantly consumable item. He will only be able to use it once without cheesy tactics.

The clone it makes (assuming it survives past 24 hours) is a real person capable of growing and making decisions independently, but will usually be extremely easy for Emrys to recruit if he feels so inclined. So. How do we use it?

•••••

Boss killer: It can be used to create a perfect copy of a powerful enemy, at which point the two will probably proceed to engage in a fair one on one slugfest to the death. The mirror will break if the clone wins, but this would allow Emrys to punch well above his own weight class. Keep it in your back pocket for that.

Harrigan Killer: we have a mission in rotation to murder Barnabas Harrigan, but mutiny while at sea is looked down on by Besmara and almost everyone on the Wormwood.

Recruitment Tool: if used on someone weak or set to cap the clone’s power at Emrys’s current level, we could get a powerful ally. Curtis is not the type to murder someone for JUST that, of course, so he’d be using it on someone that he would be killing anyway.

Trial by Fire: Use it as a combat summon during difficult fights, targeting people that meet his other requirements. If the nerfed clone dies before the person being copied, the mirror can be used again the next day. If the target dies, we have a new recruit.

Espionage: Use it to turn an enemy into a double agent, allowing for infiltration or sabotage. What group? Hell if I know, Emrys hasn’t run into anyone appropriate yet.

I Can Fix Her: Use the mirror to kill and replace someone who would be useful if they weren’t so awful. This could mean a serial killer, a demonic cultist, or any other objectively evil person. Of course, this is a call that is being made by Curtis so he might not restrict himself to true paragons of evil.

I Can Fix Her, Drow Edition: keep it around as a tool to help reintegrate into Drow society. Emrys, given his trauma, can surely point out someone that deserves to die and be replaced with a less awful version of themselves. From there, use her as the face of the operation when dealing with his clan.

I Can Fix Him, Plugg Edition: Actively target Plugg and replace him with a (hopefully) less shit version of himself.

Horny recruitment: Consider the waifu potential of targets seriously. When using it as a combat summon target the hottest female opponent, preferentially target evil hot girls, etc.

Sell it: The chances of this thing being used ethically are nil, but surely *someone* will pay through the nose to get it.

Suggestion Box: Tell me how you think he should use it in the comments!

Comments

Like most magic items it is heavily reinforced as a byproduct of being enchanted. You COULD break it but that’s more of a “hit it with a hammer” tier thing. That said, my wife has already joked that if she got this in a game it would be hit hard by the elixir effect. Drop it in the inventory and never touch it again because it could be used for something cooler!

Is that a small and fragile handheld mirror? I don't know how viable it is to preserve that long term without some kind of Inventory.. if that isn't a concern than I'd probably vote to keep it for a really dangerous Boss-Battle where the chances of Survival would otherwise be slim.
