Pearly's Salon 0.4 and its future

Hello again everyone.

Before I start yapping away about the game and so on, follow the link below for the latest update of Pearly's Salon as of now

Its limited to my Full-Moon supporters for a certain amount of time, and

I set a separate page for it in case of fixes and such, also for archiving purposes.

Whats new with 0.4 onwards

The first thing you'll mostly see are the graphical changes and additions, such as:


New map for Pearly's Salon, and I can tell you now this is the "Tier 1" of the Salon, because I want to allow the establishment to grow from a humble shoddy lil shop to something grand.

Also, instead of using the tiles, the map and its assets are drawn out by me, so in a way I got the look I wanted that I couldnt get with the titles that is available out there

The map even updates when you walk outside, this is thanks to a certain set of RPGmaker Plugins I have bought and invested some time learning into, this will be something I will lean into for other upcoming areas (and other games as well)

As I already have teased in the past updates, Pearly and NurAin now have a brand new character portrait art and personally, I'm loving these coz I have put more effort into it than the placeholders I used in the old builds.

The game will also have a new menu system, where you can view Pearly's Portrait anytime (which will changes when she change her clothes and hair, etc), as well as the day/time indicator now in menu instead of on screen.

This one may not be important to some, but I always want to get away from the default menus as much as possible.

As the rest of the icons are self explanatory, the Clientele sub-menu is planned for a future feature update to keep track or find special customers.

I hope this is where I can have special NPCs or even guest OCs from our fellow artists.

(Note: the silhouette are random silhouette, they're not hints)


Now to the MEAT of the game..


Aside from the new background, now you can finally turn the client around so you can have a clear view of their back when cutting or buzzing them.

The products (except Shampoo) are working as intended, you may even need to stock them up like before (also price are not final, game world economy isnt finalized)

There's also a couple new outifts added on top of the first one as well as two new hairtypes, which you will see in game, lol.

And also, they can be randomized to mix and match with each other, and more will be added in the future.

There's also a future game mechanics regarding hair styles/types still in the works



It has been a headache for many months but I have also been progressing well redoing the client haircut/style request, and added the results screen that reflects how well you did the job.

For now this feature is still somewhat rudimentary at this stage.


And now to address this shady character (temporarily placed at this spot until his map is done.

The "money lenders" willbe our first antagonist I've been trying to implement since earlier development.

As of now, they function mostly as a possible fail state if you fail to reach their goal, with some consquences.

Their art are still WiP also of course.


Last but not least, together with the Turn Back feature, is an addition of a new posture

For now, its just another view to ogle while you do your job, but there will be more mechanics (like really, something mechanical even) still in the works now

Hope that ticket isnt too steep.


Other stuffs that's also added/change are the music and minor optimizations

What else is missing?

Although core idea of the game is still the same, however there are some parts of the game I have changed and removed for now such as:

Hair on floor mechanic

Hair economy

Pearly's Apartment Room

Cloths changing

Pearly's Hair styling and growth

(might be more, but I forgot)


Mostly due to how much of the eventing and coding I need to change to make way for a deeper gameplay system, so please be patient with me as I will add them to future updates whichever I see fit.


What is the future for Pearly's Salon

For now, Im mostly working on the gameplay features to ensure that this will be the game I would play non-stop my self, it is (one of) my dream games, the vision that Pearly's Salon is grand, but the reality is that engine and my dev limitation may not be able to reach.

So lets say, if I'm ever done with what I could this Pearly's Salon as it reached 1.0, maybe it's potential sequel might once I developed my skills better.


Dreams aside, there's still a lot I need to work on for this current version such as:

Bug fixes

Optimization

Improving the animations

Additonal graphical assets and contents

"Daily and Weekly tasks"

Bringing back the Hair stonks gameplay

Secret collectibles

The special clients/guests

NurAin as playable character

Other areas such as Pearly's home

Story progresssion

and so much more.


So to those who have been supporting me for a long time and those who only just started to support, I thank you again and I hope you enjoy this new version of Pearly's Salon, without you guys I wouldnt be working on this as much as I would.
