I did a bit of experimenting with some effects and I think it turned out pretty well.

SO a little bit of info here?
Whenever Gabriel goes into an intense panic, the nightmare forms of the other characters will be seen. Because of this, Gabriel can't tell who they are anymore, even if they try to speak to him. To him, they seem like they're trying to attack him, while the others are just trying to stop him from freaking out.
Rhyppetch, the weird stitched two faced creature, is the one who feeds off the negative energy. When Gabriel reaches this point, Rhyppetch is able to turn him into his puppet using his strings, taking the rest of his energy to become more powerful.
