I don't think Bojack was being Truly authentic with Herb. I mean sure Bojack's guilt is genuine and so is his wanting to get closure. But not the desire to apologize part. If he genuinely was sorry he would've made contact and apologized a LONG time ago. Its the fact he only does so now when Herb has cancer and near death is almost certain. Bojack only came here to get closure for himself. If Bojack genuinely wanted to just apologize, he would've accepted Herb not forgiving him and left it at that. But no, he couldn't let it go. This shows he was only looking to be forgiven before Herb died so his conscious doesn't have to deal with the guilt anymore. And ofc this isn't gonna be a sitcom ending like Horsing Around where the conflict is neatly tided up in a 20 minute episode, which Bojack was always fantasizing about. That's my take anyway.
