Thanks for enjoying COTE so much :) I don't envy anime watchers trying to figure out Ayanokoji. In the LN it is easier to get to know what he really feels because the whole story is mostly told from his perspective so we read his thoughts all the time. The anime Ayanokoji is more stoic and cold than the LN version.
But as you have said the kid is "damaged goods" lol to say the least. I like the sentence at the end of this episode where he really questions is it possible for him to ever look at someone and not view them as a pawn or a tool?

The reason they nicknamed him "Dragon Boy" is because the name "Ryuen" literally translates to "Dragon" in Japanese.
