Am I neutral?
Added 2020-12-18 15:00:03 +0000 UTCOne of the most common comments I receive on Religion for Breakfast is that I am so "neutral" and "objective" in my analyses. The thing is...I strongly believe that value-free and objective scholarship does not exist. Everyone brings biases to the table, including me.
I've started writing a video titled "I am not neutral" that will dig into epistemology and objectivity in the study of religion. Luckily, my network of religious studies scholars on Twitter have so many helpful suggestions for research on this topic! You can see from the screenshots that my bibliography for this episode will be huge.
Stay tuned for this topic in 2021! It is more abstract than many of my other videos.

2020-12-20 15:16:34 +0000 UTCIsn't that the normal practice in science, where one tries hard to eliminate confirmation bias? That would not be necessary, if one where neutral and objective to begin with.
