December Week-In-Review: Cool Partnerships on the Horizon
Added 2018-12-19 13:27:37 +0000 UTCHi everyone. The semester has FINALLY come to a close. This means that I get some of my time back and a huge decrease in stress. I've been teaching a class at Boston University, "Magic in the Ancient World," and it has completely taken over my life. So much grading! Here are some updates:
1) Next Video: The next video will be more informal: "5 Mistakes to Avoid When Studying Religion." I'll summarize some of the most common fallacies that I've noticed while teaching this stuff, and I'm VERY curious to hear what kind of feedback I'll get since I might step on some toes. I'm still aiming to publish a video on Zoroastrianism by the end of the year.
2) Partnerships: As an academic, I'm always looking for partnerships with academic institutions. One of the fans of the show, scholar of religion and science Dr. Andrew Aghapour, reached out to me and offered to collaborate. He is one of the editors of Harvard Divinity School's journal "Science, Religion, and Culture," and we're thinking about co-producing a few videos on religion and cognitive science. I'm also writing a grant to fund a "History of Religious Freedom in America" series in collaboration with the Religious Freedom Center in Washington D.C. I've always wanted to do bigger series like this, so I am very excited by the prospect of these opportunities. Stay tuned!
3) Upcoming Livestreams: I am planning two livestreams for patrons this month. One regularly scheduled livestream for all $5+ patrons, and another year-in-review livestream for everybody. Stay tuned for those exact dates, and I hope to see you there!
4) Moving to Washington D.C.: Some of you may know that I have accepted a job at The Atlantic working on their religion news coverage. They are based in D.C., which means I am moving there in January. This is a big life change for me because I have lived in Boston for the past 7 years of my life.
Thank you everyone for your continued support. This has been the most stressful semester of my academic career, and I am so glad to be moving on to a new season of life next year in D.C!

I love The Atlantic! That's so exciting for you! I don't have a subscription anymore, but when I did, I read the magazine for a year and at the end of that year I still couldn't tell where they stood on the liberal/conservative spectrum, which is to their credit. In other words, I found their reporting fair and reasonable, not pushing any particular agenda.
