at 23:58 the reason Doakes looks at Dexter and asks what he said is because in the books they both have a "Dark Passenger" a demon that lives inside them and this connection between " Dark Passengers" allows Doakes to hear SOME of Dexter's thoughts. It is also why Doakes can sense that Dexter is a killer. He can sense the "Dark Passenger" inside Dexter. ( However after S1 they decided not to go with a supernatural element and made the "Dark Passenger" a metaphor for trauma instead )

2025-11-10 03:29:28 +0000 UTCOne writing issue I have in S1 is how we somehow ignore that Paul is a rapist. The focus shifts later to him as a wife-beater. Not sure if this was done to make him almost a redeamable character as we see him actually have love for his kids and want to be a better dad. But it feels disigenous to what he did and who he actually is.
