Rational Rise - November 10th, 2017

We're back! Mary joins me once again for an episode of the patron-exclusive Rational Rise. We discuss Roy Moore and how the conservative community is reacting to the allegations against him; allegations against Louis CK and his apology; Justin Trudeau's recent snubbing of a TPP meeting; big wins from progressives and socialists, and more!

As always, leave a comment if you have any feedback or suggestions, thanks!

"get help" you can't treat psychopathy. lol. wtf are you talking about? and psychopaths never want treatment b/c they're psychopaths.

I like your show but "great apology"? WTF? He apologized because the story broke. Of the 5 women, at least 4 felt fear for their careers, with one dropping out of comedy all together and 2 feeling that they could not apply for projects that were attached to his super powerful manager (Dave Becky). While I agree that his case is not comparable to folks like Weinstein and James Toback, it is sexual harassment (though not illegal). The standard for misconduct should not be set at the Weinstein/Toback threshold. This coming from a person who was someone who respected CK (and still thinks several of his bits have real insight). On this, I think the "moral" voice of reason has been Tig Notaro. He should not go to jail for what he did but the way he is getting defended by so-called progressives (who happen to be his fans) is unbecoming. If he had done that to someone I know, I'd have to reach my inner Dalai Lama not to try to seek him out and do something that I would regret later. Yes, CK is a mix of many characteristics, some that are truly admirable. But let's stop with the relativism -- postmodern theory has been dead for 20 years for good reason. There is a reason why these women did not feel safe to go public until the Weinstein thing happened, and it's not because CK was ready to come clean. He even wrote some comedy bits that seem, ex-post, to take advantage of the crap experiences these women had. BTW, it seems pretty obvious that he and an SNL writer outright stole a bit from Tig Notaro and re-purposed it for a sketch on that shit show. BTW, I'm still happy I'm your "patron" but one hallmark of "rationality" is to empathize with those who are vulnerable to abuses of power (i.e., Kant, Einstein, etc). Apologies for the long post.
