Close up - Exclusive's - Dwarf King 50mm

Hi dear Patrons. Today we are sharing some dwarven close ups, hehe.

This is a recent boxart for Miniatures od Madness. Dwarf King - Marko Miladinović.

We still haven't publish the final photos. But we are happy to share some close ups with you all, first!

Here you can see all the transitions between tones and colors, smooth blends as well as overleaping brushstrokes and tones. Amount of paint thickness and textures. How the colors work together and where they mix more as well as where they mix less. How much character between different materials you can get with different brushstrokes.

How much dynamic in ambient various light sources brings.

When we received this bust, we wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a statue or represented as living character. Of course, there are details that you will notice here that made this stylized bust look very alive:

- Eyes and look. I created the character by making him look very tough / almost angry and looking on the side, emphasizing that there is something going on, there is story in the moment this scene is captured.

- Dynamic lights. Ambience. Reds in shadows gave a lot of energy and toughness to this King.  And also having different angles of light, yellowish from one and lilac from other side gave dynamic and movement to the look and feel of this bust.

- Brushstrokes and textures - these details adds a lot to the characteristic of materials, giving story to piece and making it look more real or better said tangible.

Hope you will enjoy seeing this mini very close,

Thank you for your support and best of wishes from Aleksandra & me,
Marko

Comments

Thank you Joren, we will see to make more of those in future. And for the question above this comment, we made a separate post with answer for all Patrons to read more about the topic. You can read it on a post above this one. :)

I would love to see more video with explanations of how you achieve your various textures and brush strokes. Your style is absolutely incredible but it's very hard to reproduce. I don't even know where to begin.

I note that a similar problem occurs if wanted to apply highlights to blue in a cool atmosphere. Blue is already the coolest colour, so I cannot raise it's value and simeltaneously make it cooler to produce a highlight. How would you suggest to work in situations like this? Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys! First, apologies if this is the wrong place to be putting things like this (if it is, please tell me where to move this). I have a rather general question about choosing consistent highlight and shadows colours I was hoping you could help me with. Something I have heard from you, and several others great painters, is that when painting in ambience, warm highlights tend to produce cool shadows, whereas cool highlights tend to produce warm shadows. My questions is: Imagine I am painting a (warm) red cape in an atmosphere where there is a cool light producing warm shadows. Choosing a highlight colour is easy because the red is naturally warm there are lots of relatively cooler colours to choose from. I could highlight by adding white (and going into pink), or by adding a light blue (and tending towards lilac), and I'm sure there are other choices as well. My problem comes when trying to find a warm shadow colour for red. Red is already very warm so I seem to be stuck with one choice, which is to decrease the value without changing to another saturated hue.

Thanks for sharing! It's so fascinating how you built up the different colours to this complex artwork! I really like it! After a stretched holiday-pause I hope to restart with my "homework" soon ;-)
