This tutorial got most of the votes from you all, so we both hope you are excited seeing it! We told you trough previous tutorials that we are slowly building steps on taking you all closer to understanding our approach on color use. This tutorial looks fun, but it is not the easiest. There is a lot of explanations so take your time watching it carefully and listen Mr.Craftworld breaking tongue to explain it all in depth. Hehe :)
We encourage you all to try some of these techniques, ideas and approach. We encourage you to check the exercises we posted to practice more on brush use and control. And most important, take this lesson in depth for theory, and for practice don't forget to enjoy in experimenting and exploring. Take the main idea and approach behind this lesson, but don't forget to break some rules! lml

We are both glad hearing that and it means a lot. :) Approach is very similar in a way of application and built of the tones trough idea and progress. For example here I kept expanding lilac to achieve this greyish effect and I kept all the other tones still visible to achieve that reflective almost sparkling look. If I wanted surface to read in one tone a bit more dull (by this i mean less reflective) I would focus on bringing wider areas of that tone and more variations of that specific tone, making it dominant. :)

Seriously; you mentioned some self criticism of it at the beginning, but this is quite possibly the best painting video I've ever watched. You show all the steps, you discuss your thought process, and you even show an extra example so it's clearer how this integrates with the context imposed by the sculpt. Bravo! I've played around with something in this vein for some highly stylized Kingdom Death miniatures emphasizing light (or the lack thereof), and now I'm excited to try it again! One thing I am interested in, though, is how this approach can be applied to other surfaces; in particular, surfaces that bring their own color with them. For example, gold. These scales read as gray (or bluish gray) and I feel like that's the result of the balance between the colors used, which are all across the color wheel. When you want the surface to read as a different color, do you still use vibrant colors but alter their proportions on the surface, or do you fundamentally change how you approach color selection? Hopefully my question makes sense. Regardless, this has me excited to paint, and I look forward to many more videos!
