You have to shield them at this point. You can't judge what's going on based on what you know from the previous show. 9 days in, people can't and would never assume that the world has officially ended and things will never get better...WE know that because we've watched a show that is 12 years ahead. Everything going on is how we all would handle it had zombie lore not existed in our own world
