Great reaction. I love this episode because it's such a satisfying twist for the story we have been following in the last 10 episodes. Everything with Askeladd, Canute and Thorkell comes together beautifully and we form a super team with all the best characters we have been following. And our main character Thorfinn suddenly becomes a third wheel to everyone else, which is a very interesting direction for the story. Can't wait to see you react to rest of S1 and of course S2.

Hearing Thorkell talk about Thors and his reflection on regretting not going with him all those years ago, such a compelling part of this story. I find it actually really interesting when Thorkell has a brief inner monologue referring to Canute's eyes and how they remind him of Thors' eyes. It's possible that Askeladd saw a similar sight in Canute's face, hence why Askeladd decided to become his vassal. We know that early on when Askeladd meets Thors for the first time, Askeladd asks him to become their leader. He brushes it off as a joke, but there was something about it that was genuine. Maybe what he saw in Thors is also what he sees in Canute. Also, on an unrelated note, I think one thing to keep in mind about Askeladd is that just because he does really bad things, it doesn't mean he's inherently evil. One could argue that due to the era this is set in, it was only natural to be as cutthroat as possible. This doesn't absolve the action, but it does make it more understandable. I think we often associate wrongdoing with someone's capability of being a good person. We all are capable of good and evil, both of which we've likely all contributed to in some manner. If we were only ever defined by our wrongs, Thors wouldn't be the amazing character we know him to be.
