2024-02-09 03:09:18 +0000 UTCI think she's pretty fine for a side character in this series, more solid development of a crew member than most other cases imo. She and Christa kinda took on new meaning for me recently after going through the reaction where I see their struggle to stay true to themselves as more of this self inflicted conflict because they have learned to naturally be disempowered and pleasing to other's desires instead of their own as a result of their pasts. Maybe I should have picked up on that sooner, but it's communicated in a decent way.

Season 1 felt smoother in sub imo because it was juggling less plot points and took its time, late season 2 just starts going ham with character motivations and subtextual exposition it feels.

It's sad that Mikasa loves Eren like Ymir loves Historia, because with that traumatic childhood and the walls falling when they were just kids breaking 100 years of peace, they can only dedicate themselves to the army and now there is no time to be normal, they were raised as children of war

2024-02-07 23:13:55 +0000 UTCI forgot how long the “Reiner, Bertoldt, Eren, and Ymir in the woods” story arc is; it’s basically 4 out 12 episodes of the 2nd season. It’s also maybe my favorite run of the show. Eren’s voice actor absolutely knocks it out of the park, as does Reiner’s; and it’s also where we get to see the most of Bertoldt and Ymir’s personalities. It also really illustrates, to me, just how badly Ymir’s character is fumbled overall. I’ve said before that this is a very unpopular opinion; everyone loves her; but I just do not like her very much. After this she just sort of becomes an afterthought; a nonentity. I was genuinely shocked that people love her so much.
