Don't sweat it if you guys aren't talking. The reactions are always a joy to watch. This episode kind of calls back to episode six just before Reiner and Bertholdt turned into Titans. Reiner was distraught saying "If only I knew people like this (presumably people he's made friends with) didn't exist then I wouldn't have become such a half-assed piece of shit". He's conflicted between achieving his goals and hurting the friends he's made. At least that's how I read into it. Reiner is one of my favorite characters because of this conflict.

2024-02-02 01:07:57 +0000 UTCHange’s poor, long-suffering assistant Moblit is easily the best minor character on the show and it isn’t even close. The eyes thing bothered me too, but I think maybe it reflected an art change in the manga that wasn’t there when the show started. Like, the titan muscle forms around them and when they get disconnected from it, it leaves open wounds on some of the thinner parts of the body, like the skin on the face. I think the justification may be that if a titan gets damaged or hurt the healing power prioritizes vital organs or whatever over less crucial body parts. We don’t really see anyone turn into a Titan without getting knocked around a lot from this point on, but the fact that nobody ever exits titan mode without huge visible facial scars just sort of evaporates the “anyone could be a Titan without us knowing” tension and was, for me, the first major crack in the foundation that let me know that a maybe lot of this story was more made up as it went along than it (very desperately) wants you to believe.
