2021-07-18 03:10:20 +0000 UTCThis is pretty much how I understood it as well. The timeline when Kobol was destroyed/abandoned was 3-4 thousand years ago I believe. I thought it was interesting that the Kobol humanoid cylons also created a robot version of cylons that rebelled against them and their solution is always nuclear holocaust!

2021-06-10 16:27:22 +0000 UTCCourse of events as told in this episode, since you seemed a bit concerned you may not remember or digest it. 13 tribes leave Kobol (jungle place from S1 where they crashlanded and went looking for the Tomb of Athena) after some kind of calamity. 12 colonies went and founded the 12 colonies, Caprica, Sagitarious etc. 13th colony were earlier in the season revealed to be the human form cylons that people on Kobol had created that rebelled and caused the downfall of Kobol, who went off and created the 'Temple of Five' (called something else at the time) before finding Earth and colonizing it. After living on Earth for some time they learn to procreate, ressurection technology is lost to time. Five scientists all receive warnings from some strange man/woman no one else can see, telling them the end is coming and the world will be destroyed by the centurians THEY created to serve them. They rediscover the ressurection technology, plant a ship in orbit, ready to be downloaded once the apocalypse comes. They want to warn the other 12 colonies about the danger of creating AI and to keep them close and be nice to them to break the cycle. They set off on their space ship, retracing their steps and find the Temple of Five on their way back. They travelling at sub light speed, nearly speed of light, so time passes slowly for them, but 1000s of years pass and when they get to the 12 colonies, it's too late. the 12 colonies have already created AI and that AI has rebelled and started the first Cylon War. So they make a deal with the Cylons to call a truce and they will give them ressurrection and human bodies, which they create the 8 models (one of which is Daniel who John murders and contaminates his line killing them off) John then angry at his creators suffocates them all, and downloads them into bodies without memories, and gives them fake memories like Boomer, and over the years seeds them back into the 12 colonies population while he prepares the destruction of the colonies. I think that's pretty much it.

No idea i've never seen the end, but like you i feel that they're going with this one true god being real, and if they do it's the best way to explain many impossible odds. Keeping the 5 with the humans is making a big difference if that god wants a cylon/human harmony.
