Some BSG fans refer to that insanely high-risk jump as the "Adama Manoeuvre", I believe. Nobody would do that under normal circumstances, obviously - it's got to be my absolute favourite ridiculous thing I've ever seen. :-D And he's done it with a skeleton crew and his top people for plotting jumps down on the planet, not to mention nearly all of his engineering staff. What I love most about it is that it's actually plausible within the limits they've established for this universe. Star Trek can do the "invert the lateral emitter array and deploy the thermo-transducive hyperstring particles" thing and save the day - ok cool, but nobody has a clue what the frig just happened. But this is actually something that makes sense! This truly embodies that phrase Adama loves - "sometimes you gotta roll the hard six". And he rolls it with STYLE. (Btw, I actually really like quite a lot of Star Trek, so I'm not having a go at it there! Just saying that this is a completely different approach and I love it.)
