Who exhibits more Hubris? Walter Bishop or Walter White?

Gregory Wireman

The important thing to note with Walt is that the last 20ish years have been people taking credit for his work. We saw this with the company that Gretchen and Elliot started that was based on Walt's work. The scene at the dinner table was a sort of second coming of that. Walt was there listening to someone else get credit for his work. Now, if he were in his right frame of mind he may have not turned Hank back onto the case. But he was chugging wine like a madman. Apart from which, the case likely would have come back up when the DEA realized the Blue stuff continued to be made after "the Chef" was dead. All Walt really did was speed up the process. Which did turn Hank onto Gus's involvement as we saw with the El Pollo's ad. So really, Walt's hubris, coupled with about 20 years of someone else taking credit for his work caused him to break the silence earlier by telling Hank instead of waiting for the DEA to figure it out. As far as the Mike and Jesse segment; when I first watched it my thought was that they were trying to turn Jesse and Walt on each other. We've heard before that Walt won't work unless Jesse's safety is guaranteed, and we've seen that Jesse was starting to lose his focus. My thought was that Gus was trying to give Jesse a new purpose with his company, which would leave Walt alone and bitter. At which point he'd likely take it out on Jesse, who would decide that he would keep going after Walt died. Either way, glad to see you're enjoying the series! Excited for the next episode.

Walter has problems with ego, probably you've noticed that before already, same as Jesse with his, and now Gus made him a "hero", and while Walter thinks that he deserves to be a legend, Jesse will have his own version of the same thing..
