BKI Novel Preview Text – What do you think? 😬

I'm just about done with the first short story I'll be posting later today, but I wanted to get your feedback on something. You know those things you read when you want a preview of the book you're looking at before you buy it? Like the little description that gives you a small insight into what the story will be about? Yeah, that's what this is. I wanted to share it with you to gauge what you think of it! I'll be using this on the inside cover of the novel version of the story as well as the back of print versions of the comic.

The text reads:
Norman Castor isn’t your average love-deprived witch. He’s quirky and shy, and when he’s not struggling with crippling gay loneliness he’s got his nose in a spellbook. They say love and magic don’t mix, but who says he can’t use one to acquire the other? As if Norman had enough worries on his mind, he sleeps with his best friend, Liam, only to feel the cold sting of rejection shortly after. Wading through an ocean of anxieties, he’ll do whatever it takes to become a master of both magic and love—even if it means breaking the greatest taboo in the world: summoning a demon.
Caliban is a demon prince born and raised to ascend a throne he never wanted. His unusual compassion and kindness towards humans makes him an outcast in his own society. As a result, Cal struggles to find an identity for himself outside his family’s machinations. Against his will, Cal enters the Inferni Kai’ba—a winner-takes-all battle-royale that will decide the next King of Hell. In the midst of the chaotic event, he’s summoned to Earth by a handsome blonde witch—who happens to be his soulmate.
In a world where magic is power and demons are feared, Black Key Incubus follows the love story between Norman and Caliban as they confront the supernatural forces that threaten to tear their relationship apart. Will their love for each other be strong enough to win the Inferni Kai’ba? Or will a dark secret from Norman’s past destroy their world?

I liked it :) But that's just me, Im hooked. Thinking about the wider audience and aiming to catch their interest perhaps a bit more concise? Just a couple of sentences for each? Just the vaguest of outlines. Less is more in a nutshell.

2020-05-14 18:03:38 +0000 UTCI agree Liam's name probably does not need a callout. On the Soulmate Reveal- I, too, value and cherish the surprise that that was on first reading. Maybe not mention it in the teaser? Also, the image of Cal laying out on the roof, chest glowing, that is used for the Tapas icon / badge is what drew me into the story in the first place. Once the context is shown in the narrative it becomes even more endearing. Full disclosure: I had seen Daryl’s splash piece of Norman and Cal ages ago on deviantArt and never connected it to BKI until later. I love that you pulled off an “In A World…” unironically even though I can hear Don LaFonatine’s voice saying the words.
