Hey hey
Here is the script preview for how I wrote page 17 from Chapter 1!
This page really got to me when I was writing it. It was kinda a creative stretch for me because I wanted to create an incantation of magic, but I don't really have a background in Latin. So, like a dingus I wrote stuff down and eventually edited/changed a lot from this scene in terms of dialogue because I just felt it wasn't "strong" enough.
Daryl really helped me break up the original scripted page too. From his suggestions we actually split the pieces from this script page and added some of the scenes to page 18 so we could give both pages some room to breathe. THANK GOD for his talents because me, being the naive writer, expected everything I wrote to all fit on a single page xD Daryl was like "...that's...that's just not gunna happen. It's not gunna fit."
At first, this beat me down a bit. Not because I took Daryl's words the wrong way, but because I felt like I couldn't get the scene down the way I wanted. It was frustrating and I felt my pride as a creative individual had been defeated. Eventually I sucked up my feelings and just decided "Okay, let's rework it." and kept my attitude about the situation positive and upbeat because I forced myself to view this change as necessary for the survival of my comic.
This page taught me that my work, much like my life, is always a work in progress. There is not true "finished product" because everything can be changed, no matter how finite it seems to you. Also, tweaking the details a bit and reorganizing things can be a great way to break through any creative block.
Here's the finished comic art for Page 17 as a reference:
