It seems that this week's high-profile release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has had a bit more rough than smooth. Aside from the name being an absolute car crash of unnecessary words, the game was initially pulled from the PlayStation Store after preorders unlocked a full 24 hours early in some territories. Next it was apparently the PC playerbase's turn to get bodied by Rockstar, as the game has now been removed from sale there too after paying playing were locked out of the game for more than 12 hours.
- Just a few hours after the hotly-anticipated series of remasters was released, Rockstar announced on that their Rockstar Games Launcher was down for maintenance, and remained down for the next 12 hours. Of course, the Rockstar Launcher being down also means that players also weren't able to play other games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V, but with the Definitive Edition Trilogy being the most recent release (and on that's banked on years of lucrative nostalgia) it's the most pressing for players who paid quite a lot of money to access it who now can't.
Xbox might be working on a new 1 vs. 100
Now this is a fun one if true. 1 vs. 100 was a gameshow-style, mass-participation trivia quiz that released on Xbox 360 way back in 2009. Players were represented by their Xbox Avatars (remember when they were a big thing?) in a weekly quiz show and selected to be either The One or The Mob. The One tasked to prove their trivia prowess against The Mob and could win 10,000 Microsoft Points if they were victorious. Conversely, The Mob split the winnings and each got a free game if they won.
- People really loved 1 vs. 100 but sadly it was gone before its time. Following a new rumour from VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, though, it could be on the way back. Grubb said that Xbox are "definitely" making a new iteration of 1 vs. 100 that will incorporate the new wave of 3D Avatars recently announced for a Microsoft Teams VR experience. Xbox Boss Phil Spencer did say a few years back that they were experimenting with a revival, so hopefully this one really does come true.
The next Far Cry game could be liveservice
Ubisoft confirmed this week that Far Cry executive director Dan Hay will be leaving to pursue "a new chapter in his professional life" more than ten years with the company. During all this, new reports surfaced that the next mainline game in the Far Cry series is currently in development as a live-service title akin to the apparently upcoming Assassin's Creed Infinity.
- Hay had reportedly been working on this live-service Far Cry title for an undisclosed period of time before his departure, and Sandra Warren will be taking over as interim head of the project in the meantime. In a corporate statement confirming his departure, Ubisoft credited Hay for inspiring "an incredible multi-disciplined team to produce what has become one of the most popular games in Ubisoft's history." Though job moves are always a thing, and even more so in the games industry in general, Hay's departure is just the latest blow to a company that is experiencing serious issues with staff retention. Who's next?
