A new trailer for the long-awaited sequel was Nintendo's final reveal of yesterday's Direct presentation, which showed that the action has now expanded to include the skies over Hyrule. The trailer was fairly brief but managed to pack in a lot of information - including new locations, abilities, and boss battles. It also concluded with screen reading only "2022."
- While it was wonderful to see Breath of the Wild 2 in action for the first time since it was announced at E3 in 2019, anyone who remembers the original game's first trailer will likely be a little wary of the 2022 release date. That said, the sequel was originally planned to be DLC for the first game before it became too big in scope, so it's possible that just enough of the ground work was done to make that release date a little more hopeful.
Xbox exclusive The Medium is headed to PS5 later this year
Bloober Team just confirmed that their most recent psychological horror adventure will be launching on PS5 come September 3rd 2021 and will feature full support for Sony's DualSense controller. No word exactly on what that will mean just yet, but it'll be interesting to see how things like the DualSense's haptic feedback can be incorporated into a horror title.
- While it's always god when games manage to bridge the exclusive divide, The Medium was one of the only truly next-gen exclusives available Xbox Series X|S so it making the jump across to PlayStation after less than a year is a bit of a blow. The next-gen consoles didn't have a huge amount of momentum to begin with and things like this certainly won't help.
Nintendo announce first new 2D Metroid game in 19 years
Metroid Dread was one of the standout announcements of yesterday's relatively tame Direct showcase, with the classic side-scrolling adventure set to release on Nintendo Switch on October 8th 2021. The game is being co-developed by Mercury Steam - the studio responsible for the Samus Return remake - so it'll be interesting to see what they can do with an all-new adventure.
- Metroid Dread was also shown off during Nintendo's post-Direct Treehouse Live showcase, where producer Yoshio Sakamoto confirmed that "the idea" for the game first surfaced around 15 years ago when the team exploring making it for the Nintendo DS. Sakamoto says things didn't work out because the technology just wasn't there, but now it's 15 years later and the Metroid lads are ready to take another crack at it.
Cyberpunk 2077 is back on the PlayStation Store, but you still can't buy it
CD Projekt Red's maligned RPG is once again searchable on the PlayStation Store, nearly six entire months after it was first delisted by Sony. It still isn't available for purchase just yet, though - the only things you can actually do on the storefront is wishlist the game or redownload it if you already bought it.
- CD Projekt Red confirmed that the game will return to sale on June 21st, though Sony later chimed in to warn players that Cyberpunk 2077 may continue to experience performance issues even after it returns to the Store - and advised folks to try and play the game on PS4 Pro or PS5 instead. What a fat lot of good the last six months must have been.
