Added 2021-01-19 10:58:58 +0000 UTCDenuvo Anti-Cheat available via Steamworks
Denuvo's Anti-Cheat, not to be confused with the Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM, is now available to all Steamworks partners. Being included in Steamworks should mean it's free for use for effectively all games hosted on Steam.
- DAC had some controversy when it was added to Doom Eternal, but really, it's just another Anti-Cheat. Smaller devs having access to DAC for multiplayer games might open the door for competitive multiplayer indies. Let's just hope it isn't widely used in single-player games to enforce 'paid cheats'.
PUBG 2 could be released this year
According to Bloomberg, PUBG Corp is planning to release a mobile battle royale based on PUBG this year. Another PUBG, for PC and console, is due in 2022. Krafton, the owners of PUBG, are also planning an IPO this year. It's reported they could be valued as high as $27 billion, although tempered by their current status as a 'one-hit-wonder'.
- The catalyst that popularised the battle royale genre has fallen behind its contemporaries in recent years, but an entirelynew second offering on mobile and PC could do a lot to bring it back to global relevance. Not that they're suffering - they're still pulling in well over $1bn per year.
CDPR Face A Second Investor Lawsuit
This marks two lawsuits from investors claiming that CDPR misled investors as to the state of the game and the business. As with the first, the studio will “undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims”.
- Investors have every right to feel misled, given the lack of upfront communication. As to whether it'll be enough to win in court, we'll have to see. It likely won't go anywhere. Especially when the game's made a substantial profit and looks poised to keep it.
Ace Combat 7 Has Sold Over 2.5M Copies
As part of its second anniversary update, it's getting a host of new in-game cosmetics. The important part is that the beloved but niche series has seemingly received new life on current-gen and PC.
- Ace Combat is one of the series that has a unique flavour that can only be described as 'soul'. It's great to see the series has truly found a place in modern gaming.
