European consumer groups unite to investigate Joy-Con drift
Nine European consumer rights groups have launched a joint investigation into what can be done to protect Nintendo Switch buyers from controller drift - and are calling for evidence from affected users.
- The hope is, by bundling consumer complaints across several European countries together, the investigation can compel Nintendo to make a significant change. Joy-Con drift has been a thing since the Switch launch in 2017, with many accusing Nintendo of perpetuating a known defect in order to drive hardware sales.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game returns in January
The upcoming Complete Edition of the 2010 cult classic beat 'em up is set to release on January 14th for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia - and includes all of the original game's DLC, like two new playable characters.
- Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game released alongside the movie adaptation in 2010 and quickly attained cult stardom, but the game was delisted without reason by Ubisoft in 2014 and has lain dormant since then. 2020 is the tenth anniversary of the movie and the game, so it's good to see it back.
Take-Two expect photorealistic games within a decade
Speaking at a virtual conference earlier this week, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that he believes the next 30-40 years will be the "most exciting yet" for games - especially in the realm of visuals.
- Zelnick outlined that the industry looks very different now than it did ten years ago (citing lack of mobile business and recurrent spending) and expects the next ten years to also be different - particularly when it comes to creative pushing for photorealistic graphics if they want to.
Project Athia should be a PS5 exclusive for "at least" two years
The ever-mysterious Square Enix title will be a console exclusive on PlayStation 5 for at least two years, according to a new Sony reel of upcoming games - though it will also release on PC at the same time.
- Project Athia (still a working title) will be the next game from the Final Fantasy XV team and, while very little is known about it, Sony are apparently very keen to snap it up in an exclusivity deal that far exceeds that of games like Godfall. What other kind of exclusivity durations can we expect on PS5?
Cyberpunk 2077's Day One patch promises significant bug fixes
Cyberpunk 2077 reviews are out in the wild and, while there is much praise for the game's characters, quests, and world, there is also a general consensus that the game is an absolute bug-fest.
- CD Projekt Red have assured fans that this will change in time for launch - with a hefty 43GB patch planned to iron out the bugs. CDPR Comms Manager Fabian Mario Döhla also tweeted that Cyberpunk 2077 will be "a different game" on console after the update - which is reassuring as review codes were only sent on PC.
And that's everything for today - head back here tomorrow for another daily news blast!
