This thing you say about being bored is really interesting. Actually it have been studied for some time. In portuguese, the word for doing nothing is "Ócio", and the opposite of that, the opposite of doing nothing is "Negócio", which literally means "deny the 'ócio'". This word "negócio", also means "Business". If you break down the word Business, it means "keep Busy".
The root of the meaning, at least for the word business in portuguese, comes from the greek, in a time when Philosophy was at crises (I belive it is that), and merchants were on the rise. There was a growing sensation that the Philosopher did nothing (and they did, so they could think), so their job would be to do the "Ócio". The rising merchants on the other Hand, would deny this way, they would keep themselves busy, so they would produce more, hence the "Neg-Ocio --> Busy ness".
