Weekly Update: On My Own...For Now

Hey everyone! Lot’s to get into this week, so let’s get cracking.

On My Own

Yep, I'm on my own! Well, for 2 weeks. Conall is off to the US on holidays, so I’ll be running things solo for the next two weeks. Thankfully we’re fairly ahead of schedule, so bar creating news videos, there’re only 1 or 2 extra ones for me to do. I’ll be spending a lot of time writing videos for December - ideally something on potential future expansions and a Wrath of the Lich King retrospective.

Last Week

Last week was quite interesting - it’s the first time that I’ve went with two longer form off the cuff discussions in so short a space of time. They ended up doing pretty well, which was great to see, especially for Nazjatar. I really think that now is the time to encourage Blizzard to experiment with world content given how they seem to want Nazjatar to be a cut above the rest. As for the news video, well I slightly goofed. In my head it seemed pretty clear that a nerf to experience means a decrease in quantity, after all nerf does mean a reduction. Well, it seems that most took it that way, but there were a fair few who didn't, and weren’t particularly happy. A lesson to learn for the future I suppose. Unfortunately editing titles after the fact isn’t really a great option as it runs the risk of a messing up the algorithm.

This Week

This’ll be a good one! First, we have the classic V live comparison that I posted to early access yesterday, and the channel today. I took a slightly different route with it - the goal was to tell a story rather than do a straight up comparison. I figured that’d be more interesting, but let me know what you thought.

After that we have an overall guide to Patch 8.1 It’s like 15 minutes long - there’s a lot to cover with 8.1! It mightn’t be the most content rich patch ever, but the scope of systems changes and high number of misc additions warranted it. Overall it does feel like 8.1 brings us to where the expansion should have been at launch. Hopefully Blizzard learn an important lesson regarding beta testers, feedback and communicating their intent to us.

What I’m Working On

As I mentioned the Wrath of the Lich King documentary will soon be in the works. It’ll probably be a 3 parter, but we’ll have to wait and see how the script goes. Thankfully I’m not in a rush, so there’ll be time to focus on structure. I’m also going to do a video on potential future expansions. The lore is a little crazy right now, so there’re a lot of possibilities. I’ll tease one: What if Elune = Life. Tyrande is now her avatar, in a way. Well, Sylvanas is teased to serve death. So, who is death? Is there an anti-Elune?

Heck if I know, but that’s the great thing about the WoW lore - there are so many ways to read it, and so many possibilities for future content. With the Legion being defeated the only big leftover threat is the Old Gods. Blizzard surely wants many more expansions out of this game, so they’re going to have to come up with more baddies for us to kill. 

Past that I’d like to keep on working on the channel rebrand with Jess. I love the new logo (currently on my twitter). So, I’ll have to bring that over to YouTube and then replace the utterly horrid banner that the channel has right now. I mean hell, it’s horrible! That logo might also make it on to merchandise - right now I’m thinking a mug. I’ll fill you in on how that’s going next week.
