Steven Universe Future | Episode 5 & 6

POOR GREG. My man is always getting caught in the middle of everything. No outro for this video, I just didn't really have much to add aside from the in-show reactions. I hope y'all enjoy!

Steven Universe Future | Episode 5 & 6

Comments

Compared to other eps there's not THAT much I feel pressed to discuss in these- out of the whole epilogue, they're probably the two episodes that are the Least immediately relevant to Steven's arc- but they're sill very silly and fun. _ Bluebird- I really like the crux of this episode, with what Greg says to Steven: “Everyone can change, but not everyone wants to.” At the end of the day, I think this singular line sums up pretty much the entire moral code of the show as a whole. The statement 'everyone can change' truly means EVERYONE- but because life is complex, and PEOPLE are complex- not everyone will be in the right mental space to be capable of Making that change. There will always be those who stubbornly set themselves on continuing to cause harm even though they know that it's wrong. There will always be those who simply aren't ready to make that change Yet. But everyone CAN change- and thus, everyone should at least be given the chance to Choose that path. We see a number of characters who fall victim to this sort of stubborn "resistance to change" mindset in this epilogue- Bluebird (and her components) herself, the mean Lapis, Jasper for a long while, Holly Blue Agate to an extent, and even Steven himself. Steven- who finds himself slipping into the dangerous mindset that he's on an inescapable path towards becoming a worse and worse person as the show continues. Steven- who despite still believing in others' capacity to "make a change," as he overtly sang about in the movie- eventually convinces himself that he is The Exception to this rule and is simply an irredeemable monster. Which of course, isn't true. But like- if you're going to change your perspective and work towards constant self-improvement (in Steven's case, his "making a change" involved actually opening up about his struggles and addressing his bad mental health), that starts internally. You have to WANT to. Anyways!! Bluebird is such a troll. This is overtly gaslight: the episode for poor Steven, lol. A funny gag I like is the fact that- the plate of food that Bluebird gives Steven is overtly full of items that may cause dangerous allergic reactions for some humans. It's grass, peanut butter, and shellfish. Also, OOFIES. Yeah, I agree- this really DOES feel like a kind of spiritual death for Greg. He had that long hair for SO long. Very shocking moment, for sure. I also gasped when I saw it. _ A Very Special Episode: I am always down for a fun excuse to see those Steven fusions again! Especially Sunstone- their design is one of my favorites. Re: your question about whether Rainbow's design was different, yes, it actually is! They were wearing a cyan blazer in Change Your Mind- same color as Pearl's jacket- but here, they keep Steven's pink jacket instead. "Onion doesn't need magic." FACTS! Rainbow, please. Do NOT give that child access to magic. And re Onion's age: Onion is a mystery. Onion is forever. You are right- he DID not age between the original show and now and they never explain this. I am concerned. I am afraid for my safety. Eldritch ass being. XD *shivers* I genuinely lost my mind at the end of this episode where it was revealed the whole episode was like... I dunno? Some sort of acted-out kid's PSA beamed straight into my brain via Sunstone's mixture of Garnet's future vision and Steven's boundless positivity?? Fourth wall shattering. I ALSO could not summon up concrete words after watching this one. Silly nonsense.

LOL okay I will comment on actual stuff in a thread here after I've watched, but the comment you make about the toilet paper gag early on in this is SO true. This particular episode came out in late 2019, so a bit before quarantine, but it was certainly very unintentionally funny when I re-watched it while the second half of the show came out in the midst of The Great Toilet Paper Crisis of March 2020. Not to mention the other TP related gag you've already seen in the roller skating episode. Smh, Gems out here stealing our toilet paper.
