Lars' Head: "You brought me back to life! Just... let me someone who deserves it" hits hard. Damn. Happy that after years and years of feeling afraid and like he doesn't belong anywhere, Lars has finally found this group of individuals who are willing to choose staying by his side over taking the easy route off Homeworld, and who he's fully willing to (and DID) die to protect. It's all so very poetic to me. _ Dewey Wins: I'm very glad that you quickly understand Connie's issue with Steven's actions here, as it's actually surprisingly common for folks in the fandom to 100% take Steven's side. But he did in fact just Give Up entirely on her, on everything they trained together to achieve. To me it's like a mirror image of what happened in the season 2 episode Sworn To the Sword, where Connie got too deep into Pearl's training and started to believe it was her sole duty to protect Steven as his knight, that her own feelings or safety didn't matter. At the end of that episode they agreed to fight TOGETHER from then on out instead of pushing the other away and fighting alone. But in the season 4 finale... Steven pushed Connie away anyways. He pushed her away and decided to end the conflict on his own because he saw it as his sole duty to protect Connie, to protect the Gems, to protect the EARTH. He broke their promise, when they genuinely might've won had they fought that battle together. So yeah, even if his actions ensured her safety, I get why she's upset. It's a really complex situation. Despite being a bit of a doofy subplot because it's obvious Mayor Dewey is a horrid mayor and should be replaced, I actually really like that the show is taking time to show how deeply the s4 finale abduction is impacting this town. Like, damn. It's even impacting local politics. Makes a lot of sense. Lol gotta love Steven's worsening guilt spiral, though. The lil guy's going through A Time, ooof.

Finally getting around to WATCHING these instead of listening to them as a podcast, ahahah- _ Stuck Together: Gah, Lars is sooo out of his element here and it’s kinda simultaneously sad and funny. Though I don’t blame him for being annoyed as all hell when Steven’s trying to get him to help out though, because Steven’s plan just mega sucks (HOW are his pants going to reach so far away, lol) and he’s bad at properly explaining in sequence what he even wants Lars to do lmao. It’s really nice getting to see these two finally have a genuine heart-to-heart bonding moment, after 4 seasons of (mostly one-sided on Lars’ end ahah) conflict between these two it feels like such a special and earned moment. I actually really liked your theory mid episode about the Topaz fusion being a Gem that this Aquamarine could control, that would’ve been an interesting concept as well. _ The Trial: I adore the sense of mystery and intrigue this episode brings to everything. It does a great job at setting up a lot of interesting contradictions with the stories Steven and the viewer have already heard from other Gems. I also found it really surprising at first that Gemkind would actually have a court system- but given the way Blue and Yellow seem to be the sole deciders of one's fate during a trial ("Time to execute!") as opposed to any sort of jury, I kinda get the sense that it's more like entertainment to them than any true desire to be fair and impartial in their judgement. The gag where Blue Pearl draws a picture of Steven falling off the pillar on her little floaty screen makes me laugh every time, ahahah. I also remember losing my MIND watching this for the first time and getting that first shot of Homeworld from outside, I just think it looks really cool here. Lots of neat background design work. _ Off Colors: “Unless Lars is expendable. And if they kill him- there- there can’t be any death in Steven Universe, there’s no way.” It’s even funnier to me the second time around, LOL. Welcome to Steven Universe: they kill teenagers here now. And like… yeah, it may not be a permanent death, but it’s still a SHOCK. I think what’s so effective about this moment is that it serves as a huge, sobering reminder of how damn dangerous these kinds of misadventures can be for someone who’s only human. Steven may be able to tank these kinds of hits and spills, but this makes sense. He’s half-Gem and thus more durable. He even has healing powers. Lars… unfortunately… does not. Little Padparadscha is so darling to me. The “late prediction” gimmick makes me giggle when it’s played as a joke. I also like how it’s not always used for laughs- there was one time where her delay on saying what everyone was thinking really emphasized the dire stakes. (“We’ll all be…” […] “Shattered.”)

I do that so damn much, make a guess and then backtrack it. I need to just make my predictions and then shut up 😂 I love making them. I genuinely did not believe SU would do that though, if even for just a moment

Ooh that's right yeah! OH HELLL YEAH I KNEW IT! there was *just* enough of PC for me to get that. I think it was the accent she was laying down. I never get those right haha

I can experiment with making it a tad bigger. The issue is being able to reasonably claim fair use, if I can't and a studio sends me a takedown request, and that happens a few times, Patreon will ban my account. So I still have to be a bit diligent in making it so I can reasonably say there's no way people are using this to watch instead of a legitimate way. To your point though about people not already had seeing something or purchasing streaming sites, it blew my mind when people told me that is indeed the case 😂 there are actually people out there that use reactions to watch stuff because they don't want to pay for services. Absolutely *wild*

So Everdream

Thabk you for all the info on the gems! I'm hoping we get to see a lot more of them because I'm sure they'll add a unique flavor to the mix. I do actually remember that episode with her running across the desert with some lions. My interpretation at the time was that she just loved lions so much she conjured up a pink one some how. It's so much sweeter knowing that it's one that she saved.

So Everdream

I'm sure I will have more ep chit chat tomorrow when I can actually sit down with my laptop and WATCH, but I listened to these reactions like a podcast today during work and I have to say it's super funny to me how you overtly called Lars' death right at the beginning of the episode ahahah. But then that softened to like... "oh, but this isn't that kind of show, no, they probably wouldn't do that" or something of the sort. >:-)... Oh yes, they would, and I love that they do. At least for a little while, enough to freak a viewer out a bit.

the intro did change part-way through season 2, plus the Bismuth episode had a special open you are TOTALLY right on Zircon's voice being Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris), for once you're blowing MY mind on a voice actor

The patreon-hosted format is obviously easier in most ways, maybe make the video a bit bigger ? Top right corner seems to have more space for it. idk how I feel about the copyright aspect as a moral issue, I paid for Hulu, iTunes etc to watch the series in the first place and I highly doubt anyone is coming here without having already seen the series (through hopefully legit means). Watching this when it came out (with a considerable break right between the last episode of your last batch and this), the valley girl voice for Topaz was NOT what anyone was expecting. I never much cared for Lars before this arc, but he was at least always a pretty unique character; he acts like the bully in a typical kids' cartoon might towards just Steven, but the show subverts that by having Steven be mostly oblivious to it and the *actual* cool kids being unfailingly kind and accepting, even Lars is only not accepted into their group because of his own insecurities. The trial itself launched a MILLION fan theories. And then this resolution (for now) of Lars' arc is one of the most triumphant moments of the whole damn show.

Since the Rutile twins share a gem and thus technically their "brains" are linked, it makes sense they repeat things, though they are still ultimately individuals. Fluorite is a polyamorous relationship and speaks slowly, because all the fusion components need time to process and work out what they want. They still work really well together, considering that she is made of 6 Gems and even the Crystal Gem fusion Alexandrite (with 4 Gems) clearly struggles a bit with talking and acts a bit beast-like, while Fluorite is slow but otherwise has clarity. And I don't think Padparadscha has any issue with her literal vision, but it's more like that she mentally processes things differently. And yes, she is a type of Sapphire. In the episode Buddy's Book, we can actually see Lion in the past as a regular lion: Rose is seen in the desert with a group of lions and one of them (the camera notably tries to keep him away from full view) has the same heart-shaped nose none of the other lions have. The creators have confirmed that Lion and Lars aren't immortal, but they age VERY slowly (Lion is around 200 years old.) And I guess this confirms that Lion is like Amethyst: doesn't need to eat but does for fun.
