August AMA!

Alright guys, it's time for another Ask Me Anything!

You can ask me stuff about artwork, about Kaerwyn, the RP, etc. You can also ask the characters* of the comics stuff!

The only thing I will not respond with are spoilers for the comics, the characters, the RP, etc.

So ask away!

*I do not own Callie, Tunc, Renard, or Niixa. So if you ask them stuff, I might not be able to get an answer for you, or at the very least it might take some time as I play email/chat tag for the answers.

Comments

It's cool. I wasn't upset at any moment of the discussion.

RT

I would like to apologize to RT and Jakkal if they felt that my comments were vague or weird. I did not wish to propose myself as somebody who has the end all opinion on what is and is not fantasy or science fiction. But i started by saying that Kaerwyn begun as a mix of fantasy and science fiction and not it seems mostly fantasy. Thus i went into a lengthy explanation on what i consider fantasy or science fiction. I agree that terms have to be defined. I also agree that my definition of those terms does not agree with more common definitions. And yes i do agree that a lot of stuff which people seem to consider fantasy or science fiction gets filed in the complete opposite by my definitions. I could say that the world is a lot of gray areas and thus stuff which some people consider in one way could be considered in a completely different way by other people. Heck, myself, when making those comments i was thinking that some stories are "science fiction" only because of their context in a series not because of the story itself. I re-read today the Asimov story about the robot disintegrating the mountain with the energy from a couple standard batteries. If read alone that by my standards would be filed right under fantasy because of the way it gets represented. However it is a science fiction story if i examine the rest of the series, because it's just one more step that gets added tho the whole "let's see what happens when meddling with the 3 rules" which, by itself is a scientific approach and thus feels lice science fiction to me. So yes. I have been vague because to me there is no clean cut way to file anything but the purpose of tags which each of us applies to what he likes is not to clearly cut a divide, but to add a reference. And at least for me there is no shame in mixing some elements of fantasy with science fiction, doing straight science fiction or doing straight fantasy. It's all enjoyable, I just apply tags as a reference, not to whine or complain. So yes. Sorry about the whole 3-hour discussion and mess. I did not intend to make such a topic so heated.

I want to say that the town is probably a mile across at it's greatest width, it's kind of irregularly shaped. We usually say there's between 800-1200 people living there. Tavern Road is the main road, so it's easy to find shops on it.

Jakkal

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but about how big is the town, in blocks and/or miles (or kilometers)? This came to mind when Endy left Niixa an address, as it had me wondering how easy a simple street address is to find.

This probably isn't the most complicated I've done, but it's the first that comes to mind. When I first started taking livestream commissions around 2013ish, I was doing $5 lineart commissions, just to drum up some watchers/business. PaulRevere1991 commissioned 20 images of his new character, Karen, changing into a horse for the first time. I had no idea how long it would take, so I said I'd take up that challenge. I started the livestream at about 8pm, and ended around 6am. It took me so long that even PR had to go to bed before I could finish. After that, I got an idea of what my limit was, so that's why I started limiting the number I'd take.

Jakkal

Hmmm...artwork....what would you say is the most elaborate/complicated commission you've ever worked on (outside the comics)?

The Kaerwyn comic is actually only about 5 years old total. At the end of Issue 2, I had to stop working on it for time reasons. So that ran for a year, then stopped, then I picked it back up in 2013. Originally, I ended for Issue 3 (Endy's introduction) to be a complete reboot. But we decided in the end to actually make it Issue 3 and tie it into the original comic. The problem is that Foobar was originally my husband's character. And in the early issues, he hated every single thing I wrote for Foobar. He didn't like any of it. So I was entirely reliant on him for Foobar's actions and lines. When he died, that was pretty much it for Foobar. I knew I'd never be able to write for him. I didn't want to go against my husband's wishes for him. Every now and then I think about what I'm going to do with Foobar, but I haven't figured out what to do yet. He's still out there, somewhere. I'm not going to leave it hanging forever, but I need to find something fitting. In the original RP, he found himself on a completely different world and some stuff happened to him that I won't go into (He ended up getting an anthro form). But I'm probably not going to go that route with him, again, because I can't write his lines. Issue 3 was actually going to be the introduction of the character Tessemer, a starship captain, who was also played by my husband. He was the major inspiration for technology for early Kaerwyn. That had to get scrapped too. I think we've had a decent mix of Tech and Magic overall. Niixa's from a pre-industrial society that while they use magic to produce electricity, their tech is still mostly mundane technology. Callie uses computers for her magic. Just the focus is heavily on Endy, and Endy's primitive compared to the other characters.

Okay, so... Kaerwyn. I did an archive crawl a couple months ago (for 11 years of comics this was, very sadly, very short). It started as a somewhat mixture of sci-fi and fantasy thing which i liked, then went back to a very standard and classic fantasy. Lurking around i understood that foobar was basically the only element of "tech" and, if i read it correctly, his player died. So you dropped everything concerning him. If i may ask. Could we at least see foobar in the background every now and then? As an homage at the very least? I am a $10 donor and never had a furry character myself. And i don't mean to appropriate foobar or anything. But it's sad that somebody who basically was the very first connection of the readers with kaerwyn has been erased from existance, well i'd like to provide a memorial at the very least. Is it possible? If, instead, i understood it completely wrong... what happened to foobar?
