Moving the Goalposts
Added 2016-06-25 16:43:24 +0000 UTCSo I've been doing some number crunching again, now that BT is back on the schedule. Right now my work schedule looks like this:
Monday: Kaerwyn 1
Tuesday: Kaerwyn 2
Wednesday: Kaerwyn 3
Thursday: Commissions x3
Friday: Commissions x3
Saturday: BT
Sunday: Sleep/Delta Project/Kaerwyn RP stuff
So essentially I only get Sundays off. This would be great if I were rolling in cash, but putting aside the commissions right now, I make about $2.50-$5/hr on the comics. This is just the time it takes for the visual art of the comic. This does not at all include writing the comic, coming up with ideas for it, that kind of thing. That's what's killing BT now. I don't have time to write that story, so I'm really just dicking around putting out the pages hoping it's good enough for Patreon Subs.
And it's not, it's not at all. I need time for BT because my inspiration is not there. My inspiration is with Kaerwyn, which is why I've chosen to do it instead of BT.
Now back to the commissions, they're the only thing keeping me from drowning in debt. So I cannot touch those, those 6 slots really have to get filled every week or I start to run into the red. If I stopped doing the comics all together and just did commissions (Assuming the slots were always filled) then I would be making a very good living wage.
But I *want* to work on the comics, which is why I sacrifice good money for being able to do what I want to do.
But that extra BT per week is killing it. I need that weekend to relax and write the stories for the comic, figure out what I need to draw.
So you'll still get the next two BT's for this month. But next month I think I'm going to have to push BT to the $800 goal. Maybe I can do one BT per month at the $600 goal. 4 BT's at the $800 goal means I'm making $8/hr on the comics, which isn't terrible. It's still less than minimum wage after Patreon Fees and taxes come into play. But it's much more reasonable than what I'm making now.
So I just want to warn you guys about this in advance.
But hey if the $800 goal is met, you guys will get the chance for a free commission per month too. Now I'm not saying it's a raffle because that's against Patreon's TOS. But you might get to submit a commission idea and I will "randomly select" the one I "like the most" to draw.
Anyway, as always, your thoughts, suggestions and input are important to me. I'm still rethinking the rewards and stuff so you guys get more out of your donation than what I'm offering. (You'll even get some free wallpapers this month!)

You have to do what you have to do. You're already making far worse than you deserve for the comics but as you said its a labor of love to do kaerwyn. You need time to yourself too and if BT cant be sustained without shooting everything including itself in the foot (I view it being hard for you to be inspired by with lack of time as such) then i heartily agree you need to bump up your pay gate for it as much as I miss reading Lore's story.

2016-06-25 20:53:46 +0000 UTCI would have no objection if you changed your goals. Already feel bad enough about the idea that artists making less than minimum wage and if increasing your goals inches your further up that rate, so be it!
