Good rec — I just checked him out. “Stewart Lee - Context-free words” on YouTube seems like an example of that jazz style you described. He even drops a Gervais reference: “If Ricky Gervais shouts ‘Mong’ in a forest, over and over, and there are no Americans there to tell him he’s a genius … is it offensive?”

He does things you completely don't expect at every turn - it's essentially the jazz of the comedy world, not discernable rythmn then it all clicks.

Apparently never had any plans and just ad libed once he got on stage. He also did the laugh at his own jokes while rather than rehearsing when to laugh. Could see him multiple nights in a row and the show would be mostly different.

He does great off the cuff shit, especially with shutting down/working with hecklers. I also love any time Jordan shits on TV comics like Charlie Pickering and Kitty Flanagan, I know it's 90% of the pods but it's honestly what keeps me coming back.

Although you are right it kind of seems he is trying to be offensive, it made me think of Jimmy Carr's dark joke special which fucking sucked. I couldn't even sit through Jimmy Carr's special but at least this latest Ricky Gervais special has well written jokes.

2022-06-02 14:51:04 +0000 UTChey guns n roses is funny too, though maybe its just funny to me. ricky wasn't exactly a spring chicken when he did those golden globes speeches chikoo, i dont think age means you can't be funny anymore. i liked ricky's old stand up but to be honest stephen merchant and karl pilkington were funnier on the ricky gervais show. i haven't seen his new standup but i think i feel like how jordan does, shitting on "woke" culture is a tired gag and something everyone agrees with unless they use twitter on the daily.
