Hey guys, I hope you are all doing well and looking forward to a beautiful weekend ahead.
I wanted to share all of my upcoming plans in terms of conventions.
We are fortunate to participate in three different events: two this year and one next year. To add to the list, I am also attending a Bulgarian convention at the end of August.
So let us start with some more information about all of them.
Anifest in Varna - August 28 - 29
This year I was invited to be a judge at the Varna-based convention, Anifest. I am always happy to have the chance to be an active community member and push the community even further. Due to the weather and the new requirement for the face-masks, I am thinking of bringing lighter costumes - to make it a bit easier on my body. It will be exciting for me, as it will be the first time I can bring my cosplay and Etsy shop and sell stuff directly. I think it will be an excellent opportunity to let more people know about my crafts and to see more of my work. I have made a mountain of things - wooden boxes, Genshin goodies, handmade bracelets, and quite a few other things.
Saudi Arabia, WCS, 4-9 September.
Last week we had a surprise call from the Bulgarian organizer of WCS. He mentioned that there was a new tournament-style event that would take place in Saudi Arabia. You can already imagine the shock on my face when I heard the news. At first, I was shocked to listen to the information, but after some research and a ton of questions, we could see that the event is hosted by people connected to WCS. We were asked to participate - so we accepted the offer and will bring our Tarnished and Malenia, once more. Now we must start preparing again and reworking some parts. We also have to think of how we can make a more serious stage performance for the competition as comedic ones are generally avoided in such events. TBH, I am not looking forward to the weather there and I am feeling a bit uneasy regarding their laws and appearance regulations. I am thankful to have such an opportunity tho' and to be able to compete at such a high level.
DETO 3-7 Switzerland, November.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I was able to qualify to present Bulgaria at the first installment of DETO hosted in Switzerland. I can't express how grateful and happy I am to have won the solo competition with my costume of Shiranui from Onmyoji. I performed a choreographed dance with parts from the actual dance of the character. I have a great cosplay plan lined up for DETO, which I will be sharing with you next week. I will also be sharing progress with you along the way. I am excited to start working on this project and share many pictures. I think it will be a great challenge but also a great honor to compete at an event for the first time and go for the win!
WCS Japan 2023 Date: August
Malenia is a character, which instantly clicked with me, not only story-wise but also design-wise. A big plus was that I did not need a wig. I am beyond honored to present Bulgaria for the second time at an event that is so amazing. Unfortunately, Malenia will probably not see another big event. I am not even sure if it is possible to present the same costume on 2 WCS events. This said - we are considering some new game titles and costume ideas, but there is a pretty good chance we pick more complex characters from Elden ring. It seems that I am obsessed with the game and its design. Getting to see my peers again is a fantastic feeling, and I am pumped to start working on our costumes and make sure to present Bulgaria the best we can and aim for the big prize.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I wish you a great day ahead.
xoxo
