This season had some disappointing things about it, but I don't hate it.

Humans are..complex. I had to sit w the ending for a while and also see a few rxns to realize as much as we want the happy ending. It was actually very fitting and more realistic. And some quite powerful moments that brought me to tears. Like when he said goodbye to the baby and he falls off. The blowing up of the island(which was also a goodbye to the literal sets/series..at least the Korean version) and the daughter finding out her dad passed. And yes the small victories do mean something(the little girl that got her dad back and isn’t sick anymore, saebyoeks mom and bro reuniting, baby surviving by keeping his promise to 222, and his daughter being set for life), that’s the hope and faith in humanity gihun was fighting for. And considering the writer who is also the director only originally planned this as 1season like most kdramas, but he made no money on it (which is so messed up). So I don’t blame him for making the other seasons to get a better deal with Netflix. There are def unanswered questions But ideally he wanted to end it with the first, so he did a good job overall i think. As for why frontman kept doing this i feel like after his wife died and seeing that he brutally killed all those guys to win his season he felt like he was too far gone to maybe return to civilization and act normal. Also partially why I feel Gihyun dying prob was best. Cuz he actually had a conscious. And considering how broken he was after 1st season there was no way he’d be able to live with the survivors guilt if he got out this time.

2025-07-12 19:01:36 +0000 UTCThis season could of still ended with the baby being the winner and I wouldn’t have had any faults if we actually got answers to things, I also hate the us version I think a better spin off would be a season that does the very first squid games in the 80s? So we can actually see how the system came to be etc but no we just got more questions than answers which is why this show could of just stopped at season 1

I can honestly drop a rant on my interpretation of the entire show, and specifically the finale season, and why it’s a better ending than most directors would’ve given a beloved show, but I don’t want to force that on anyone lol. I binged watched the final season on my own and did my second binge watch, but I did it with your reactions- starting from S1E1 to the very end. Your takes were hilarious but also valid- I appreciated watching you pick up on small details or guessing what’s going to happen before it did since I did the same with this show (and tend to do it with anything I watch lol). I will say, the first watch had me very dissatisfied with the finale. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it- I super frustrated with the detective and very annoyed with the VIPs. It felt like the ending was anticlimactic despite all the chaos leading to and it felt… empty. But, with my second watch, I actually had a change of heart. I still think some things could’ve gone without but overall it was a good ending that was true to (most) of the characters. And I think that maybe if you rewatch this, if you ever do, you might also feel a bit differently!
