ATTACK ON TITAN 3X19 & 3X20

Comments

Thank you :) I hope she reads it or that her mods will show it to her

Lau’

well written without any spoilers basically just describing what happened in these two episodes. I think it’s really important to read this before going into S4.

Bat

I also felt so dumb when I first watched this anime. Confusion is part of the journey while watching this but trust me, everything will fall into place and your questions will be answered as we go on each episodes. ☺ Episodes give us answers (and sometimes more questions), so don't worry too much! I also got no problem of you not commenting that much coz it's understandable, it's your first time watching this and its confusing to grasp everything all at once. I was like you when I first watched AOT haha. Thanks Caitlin for the reaction! 🤍

Athena

I have one brain cell and this so much information 😭😭are we in the basement now?

Ariana Escalante

“I’m the Owl.” - that was such an epic moment!(≧∀≦)

Nylette

Ok so I’m going to sum up with NO SPOILERS what we’ve learned during these episodes that might be hard to assimilate at first (I feel like clarification is needed for you not to be completely lost when watching the rest of the anime). All I’m about to talk about was mentioned in these 2 episodes :) - Eren learns that humanity still exists outside of the walls thanks to his father’s story and the picture he left. - outside the walls, society is divided: the Eldians and the Marleyans. - Eldians are the descendants of Ymir Fritz, the great Titan mother. Now the Ymir that we saw in season 2 is not the same person, and that’s not a spoiler. When Ymir was telling about her past, we learnt that she was chosen as an orphan and named Ymir after THE great Ymir to be a fake “goddess”, an imposture (the reason why she was turned into a titan as a punishment to begin with). - Ymir Fritz as the first ever Titan, had the power of the founding titan (that she got from making a pact with the devil, according to history books). She then created 9 special titans (like the ones Eren, Annie, Reiner, now Armin have, and more like the beast Titan or the weird one that walks on all four). - It is told in history books that Ymir and her subjects (people that physically can turn into titans wether it’s dumb or special ones) exploited the rest of the population, killed them and committed terrible sins as a whole. When Eldians finally lost the Titan war, the rest of the population, the non-descendants of Ymir (the Marleyans) decided to make generations of Eldians pay, keeping them into camps to have them under control. - Now when Grisha grew up, he realised that most of the Marleyans history books were lying, that Ymir and her subjects actually helped the population to prosper. Which is why he joined the resistance with one goal in mind: eradicate Marley and free Eldia. - Dina Fritz, the girl he ended up getting married to and who he got a son with outside of the walls before he met Eren’s mom, is a descendant of the King Fritz, who ran away from conflict. Thus, she was the only royal left. - When King Fritz decided to run away from conflict, he exiled himself and other Eldians on an Island called “Paradis Island”. He built the walls that we know, Maria, Rose, and Sina, to protect the Eldians within and erased their memories to keep the peace (as we learned from season 3). - The King left with a warning: that if Marleyans dared to attack the 3 walls, millions of titans would come out of the walls and start destroying the world as a response. It’s basically a deterrent weapon. - We also learned that Marleyans were in the possession of 7 titans out of the 9 as a way to dominate Eldians. But when they realised that the power of the founding titan was within the walls of Paradis Island (as we know, passing from a generation to another in the royal family), they started using these special titans in their army, in order to try and get the founding titan power. As Marleyans cannot turn into titans, since they’re not descendants of Ymir like the Eldians, they started recruiting Eldians to inherit these special titans powers and make them Marleyan Warriors (kind of as weapon). - this is why Grisha and Diana were obsessed with the idea of their son becoming a Marleyan warrior. Because if he was able to inherit a special titan power, he could be sent to take back the founding titan’s power from within the walls. Grisha was counting on his son to bring it back to Eldians, who would finally have it and free themselves from the Marleyan domination. But that was if his son didn’t turn him and the whole resistance in. Anyway I hope this helped, I’m guessing that you probably already watched the 2 episodes coming out on Friday, but I still hope I helped clarify some things up. I know I was lost too at first and because of that, struggled to understand season 4.

Lau’

hey caitlin!! just clarifying ur rant early in the video! basically it’s bc after a season ends they would release an ova or like a summary of what had happened on the previous season! it’s for watchers who is waiting for the new season to drop! basically a filler that have somewhat connection to the timeline :))

heyitspf

my bad!!! it wasn’t on purpose so i edited to word it better and spoiler free ! 🫢🫢

cat

Isayama is a master storyteller! The foreshadowing and rewatch value is insane honestly

Lalisa Truong

yea, you're right. it may click after she digests all of this.

Fairy_marlise

she's asked people not to spoil, yet here you are.

B

This anime is crazy.Even though it is an anime, the scenario is as good as a history book, as DINA is the Titan that ate Eren's mother, and the other injected Titans are also Titans we have seen before in previous seasons. There is a lot of foreshadowing in the details of this anime, and the people who made it are insane!

J Mero

can we please not spoil info caitlin has yet to realize or figure out?

B

Don't worry. I can understand Japanese, but I did not understand a bit of what I saw in this scene lol lol😂

J Mero

not me realizing on the second watch many things that were not easy to catch week to week, honestly the info dump on the season finale is a lot and the whole season felt like that too you are not alone caitlin!!

cat

Good job, mods!

Cory Tripp

Hmm I don't think it's a spoiler? Since it's already told but maybe hold off on it until after this season? She could still put things together.

Lalisa Truong

Guys, do you think explaining the 60 yrs our Ymir was was talking about would be considered spoiler? Her story has been told but just to be careful

Fairy_marlise

Please don’t look at the comments. 🫠

Samantha Tucker

girl why are u spoil that she mentioned that she don't want a spoilers and want to find out by herself!!!

Don’t get me started

yeahhh…. at this point you just gotta accept what happens and wait for even more information 😂😂

Jared Dumapit

I wasn't sure if I should so I just kinda kept it off 😅

Lalisa Truong

Sorry, thanks though! It slipped my mind but I fixed it 😅

Lalisa Truong

I wanted so bad to know what was in the basement and this episode definitely felt like a "here, dammit! Since you wanna know everything already."🤣 CAN YOU BELIEVE I just realised watching your reaction that Kruger aka The Owl was the officer who told Grisha you might as well watch the plane if you're already here after beating him up💀 we've all been there, don't feel stupid😭😂 If we were a spoiler-safe zone this is definitely one of those moments where it be fun to have a forum.

Fairy_marlise

I don’t think you should mention who the beast titan yet… cause it hasn’t been mentioned or shown the reveal and Caitlin hasn’t piece that together yet. He’s only been mentioned as the War Chief and not by his name as of rn

Julia

GIRRRRRLLL😂 This episode was effing my mind up 1st time i watched! The fact that we were in the past but everything was more modern, the new locations' names: Paradis, Marley, Eldia, Liberio, I was like which is which?!! I had to watch more than once AND LITERALLY write on my notes app. I also had the same Ymir question, I've seen it's been cleared up by some comments.

Fairy_marlise

I think it becomes hard since from season 1 we had sooo many questions and by the time went by, we had more interrogates than answer, but suddenly in this season a looot of info and answers are revealed, even more that we could imagine, and end up being kinda overwhelming, but cool to finally know how the full picture is looking alike and some circles are fully closed by now, with next episodes more stuff comes and more information too, is normal to feel is to muchh hehe. Other than that, so amazing being able to enjoy this again with you Caitlin, but also to read the comments and point of view from other viewers 🥹🫶🏻

Wanky Brissett

haha totally get you, I was a manga reader too, Remember we had to wait a month between chapters and was a nightmare to understand, sometimes I had to go back to the previous chapters to connect stuff lol.

Wanky Brissett

The Ymir you met is not the same Ymir from 2000 years ago that made the contract. She was given that name for those followers. Think of it as a cult. I know its confusing at time but this episode did lay it out for you. You will learn more things as you go so no worries. Grisha is Eren's dad. This was his story as to what lead him to the wall and why he wanted the founding titan.

Kortni Moore

He's breaking the 4th wall while standing on the 4th wall 😀

Lalisa Truong

Not sure if someone mentioned this already but found out that when the guy with the moustache was talking to Grisha about entertainment and people wanting to see cruelty, he was looking directly at the audience, somewhat breaking the 4th wall (which we rarely, if ever, get in the show) which was the authors way of calling out how we as the audience are not that much different as we are also watching this show, full of suffering and death, as a form of entertainment lol. so so many little details and things that I have also missed even tho im now watching it for the fourth time along with you. It is really hard to understand everything at first but it is so worth the incredible story :)

Saron Eriken

Basically this is what we found out here combined with what we know already, which is the History of Eldia (according to Marley). Almost 2000 years ago a person named Ymir made a deal with a devil and became a Titan. When she died her spirit split into 9 titans, which we call the shifters, as they can shift between human and titan form. The royal family of Eldia used these 9 titans to control the world in cruel ways, until the people of Marley fought back. They stole 8 titans, except for the one that was with the royal family. The King of Eldia at that time took his people and escaped to the island of Paradis and built the walls out titans. He threatened if anyone came to harm his people, the titans in the wall would be released. In order to keep his people in the walls placated, he erased their memories using the power of the Founding Titan which remained with the royal family. Marley now subjugates the remaining Eldians in Marley in internment camps. There is a small section of Eldians who want to restore Eldia to power and free their people in the camps.

Christina M Villa

Pure titans are the mindless dumb ones that Eren and them have been fighting. The titan shifters are titans like Eren, Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, and (our) Ymir. The ones that can turn into titans at will and are conscious of their actions. The shifters are of nine altogether so so far we already know like 6/9. We have: Eren (Founding Titan) Reiner (Armored Titan) Bertholdt/Armin (Colossal Titan) Annie (Female Titan) Ymir (the ugly one as Connie calls it lol) Glasses blonde dude (Beast Titan) It's a lot of info dumping I know but don't worry, all of it will make sense eventually. It took a lot of us a few rewatches to understand everything as well.

Lalisa Truong

Don't worry, I've seen this episode like twice (thrice now) and I still get confused 'cause so much it's going on, lol. At least, you are not going to forget things as you are going in one go. I used to forget everything as time passed and we waited for new episodes, lol. You'll get there!

Vi

53:20 THE WAY YOU ARE STRUGGLING MADE ME LAUGHNVJFNVJD yeah we've all been there... this whole backstory is about eren's dad grisha so yeah you could say that dina is eren's step mom.. also this is not a spoiler and adds nothing to the plot or anything but the way dina's last words were that she would find grisha no matter what and then pulling up to eren's house in the first season just to eat his mom like damn. that's family drama on another level

su

GIRL ZEKE IS THE BEAST TITANNNN U HAVE TO REMEMBERRRR

Aaryan Bangera

Guess we now know who the "real enemy" is that Eren wanted to know back in S2. It was the world all along! And (our) Ymir was also right in that even if Eren killed Reiner and Bertholdt, he'd be gravely mistaken that everything will finally come to an end. Them dying would not fix the world's perception of their race. The world hates them and sees them as monsters. They were the "evil monsters" that the world wanted to save humanity from. Humanity's greatest and feared enemy... This was the reality that people like Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, and Ymir had to face. If it was anything like what happened to Grisha and Fay (poor girl), then it was indeed a cruel world they were living in. Bertholdt's inner monologue during "Descent" has so much more weight now. Also now knowing who the Smiling Titan is, it makes it all the more tragic what happened to her. She unknowingly killed her husband's second wife, killed Hannes, and then died by Eren's hand when he set the titans on her...The only positive of all that that I could see was how she was at least set free from her nightmare through death.

Lalisa Truong

Girl, you look completely lost and I love it!🤣 I remember reading this as a manga and I didn’t understand a thing, just waited for the next chapter hoping it will make sense later

Nylette

Also if you weren’t aware, the restorationist people that were turned into titans were the same titans we saw in the first season when eren and the crew first encountered titans when the wall was broken again. A lot of full circle moments in this episode!

Julia

The difference between a Titan shifter and a pure Titan is that Titan shifter are like Eren, Reiner, Annie, now Armin & the beast Titan. Pure titans are just the dumb/abnormal titans that roam around eating people. From here out there’s going to be a lot of info thrown out to you, if you need some clarification I’m sure we can help explain it you but it’s up to the MODs to see if it spoils you or not. Some of these infos are just things you have to piece together yourself as you go

Julia

Its confusing but the Ymir we know isnt actually named ymir, we saw in her backstory a group of believers had her pretend to be ymir to everyone so they had someone to worship, and then when their group was discovered she doubled down and yelled that yes she is ymir the royal blood flows through her (a lie), to try and save everyone else. This episodes info now reveals who ymir actually was and who our ymir was made to pretend to be

Locke

I’m already aware thank you 😅

Caitlin Benson

We're finally at the basement, yassss!!! Thanks for your reactions Caitlin💜

Yogurt

IT'S COMPLETELY NATURAL TO BE CONFUSED. The ep literally dumps whole lotta information at once, even i got stressed about it lmao. Dont worry though you'll eventually understand bit by bit as you continue on with the show!

stygianr

The first time I watched I was confused about this for a number of episodes😅

Yogurt

Please get a whiteboard girl make notes 😭😭😭

Nikki Martini

The yimir you’re talking about was named after the yimir that made the deal with the devil! Please read this❤️

Nikki Martini

We know from Ymir's backstory that she was given her name likely to trick people into following her, by saying she was a descendant or embodyment or something (🤷‍♀️) of Ymir Fritz. I assume that is the reason they have the same name. Confusing indeed though😂

julia

I feel so bad for armin tho, imagine waking up and hearing all that

Portal_Paw

I legit cried when we got to the basement lol Such a long wait😭

Portal_Paw

Thanks for clarifying! Makes sense. Kinda confusing tho that they have the same name lmao but yeah not the same person got it haha

Caitlin Benson

Hi cait, just wanted to clarify, ymir fritz i believe is not the same ymir we know. as seen from the timeline, few hundred years ago, the ymir we know we still just a kid. but the ymir that was brought up in this was from at least a thousand years ago. hope this helps!

Hardy Fadil

Now might be the time for you to get that pencil and paper out to take notes😂

Savannah Guess

OH MY GOD You uploaded so early 😭🙏 thank you
