It's no excuse, but the "soldier" version of him doesn't remember what the "warrior" did unless he's brought out of the "solider" persona. The "warrior" remembers everything and is ashamed of the "solider" persona. That's basically what Ymir was saying that time in the trees.

All the little details that make sense after you get to know the other side of the story and the different way you feel about some characters... it's really one of the best written shows ever!!

What makes this show AMAZING is that nothing is black and white whith this show, almost everything is grey. And at the end of this season and the start of the next you'll start to see why. 2025-03-03 17:22:40 +0000 UTCI actually felt bad for Reiner’s friend getting eaten by armin…but like he literally brunt armin to the brink of death soo… I think for me they’ve chosen their side and I have yet to really understand why they’re even doing all of this. Like they explained it some what but I’m also like not getting why they have to kill everyone to reach their goal. Anyways all I know is Marco didn’t deserve that. So I’m rightful upset about it lmao 😭

2025-03-03 15:37:09 +0000 UTCIdk how many time I’ve said this for other reactors but I will keep saying this forever. 😭 I will ALWAYS remember this comment while watching this when it was airing cause it still sticks to me to this day: “Marco’s death was not in vain, it was because of Annie taking his gear that Armin was able to suspect Annie, that lead to the slow unraveling of everything else. His death was the first step for humanity.”

2025-03-03 15:15:36 +0000 UTCAnnie shown emotionally distressed as she was forced to take Marco's ODM gear state makes it pretty bit eye-opening when you compare this with what she does later to the SC on their expedition (Eren's first expedition). She didn't look like someone who would ever struggle to kill then, but now we can see that she definitely went to another place entirely in her mind when she attacked them. And all because of what happened here. Seems like Bertholdt now, she resolved herself then. For me, it hurts to see that 180 on Reiner here, especially with the full context now. Annie and Bertholdt didn't want to kill Marco and Reiner at first was so resolute in what he was doing to Marco, that it was the right course of action, only to then break upon seeing him get eaten. It was hard to watch, especially when by the end of it all, we're left with a scene of all three of them not truly accepting or understanding what they just did.
