YUTA DEPTH ALBUM REVIEW

MY ROCKSTAR AHHHHHHH

What's your favorite song? Top 3?

YUTA DEPTH ALBUM REVIEW

Comments

I honestly am still having such a hard time picking a favorite. Prisoner has been on repeat for days but after that, I have no idea. I do definitely agree with what you meant about this feeling nostalgic. This whole project just feels so timeless to me, and I think a big part of that is because he did what was true for him instead of what's selling. I love that goodbye comes before butterfly for the ending because it feels like he is letting go of that mask or part of himself that he wants to shed in goodbye so now in butterfly, he's free of that weight and he can truly fly like he wants. Like, he really said we're gonna get emotional and vulnerable but they're all gonna be certified bops!

Just joined Patreon only to hear your thoughts on Yuta's album. As a Yuta bias since 2020, I cannot be more proud of him that he is finally able to unleash his hidden potential and artistry that he couldn't show while he was in 127. Regarding the interview, Yuta doesn't have any video interview where he talks about his album. He actually talks about the album & the meaning of each song on his radio, even talking about how he thought of creating different versions of the album. On X/Twitter, you can look up @neocityjpn who provides English translation of all his radio episodes, every Thursday, at 9PM JST (Japan time). My top 3 favorites has to be Goodbye, Prisoner and Last Song but honestly I cannot rank any of them because each track is so beautifully made & the best part is Yuta has written & even took part in arranging and composing the songs.

I downloaded the album, but didn't hear it yet, so watching Caitlin react to it was really nice. Made me smile as an NCTzen. The rework of "Butterfly" did really fit with the album. Loved the call-back to the documentary/series for NCT 127 with the intro words like it was alluding to Peter Pan (The Lost Boys title for the NCT 127 documentary was also a reference to Peter Pan, staying younger, going to Neverland, etc) and the first time possible non-fans (meaning people who don't follow NCT nor have seen their concerts) heard Yuta's song "Butterfly", so it came full circle and just...yeah, amazing. Honestly, as much as I like dance/r&b, my alt. rock bias can't deny "Butterfly (Depth version)". They just are two different versions, but right now, I prefer "Depth version" over the "NCT 127 concert version". I think it's because this version also feels more 'full/complete' even at its short running time. Yuta's mind for this album...bravo.

I know it's not exact, but the lyrics about not being a perfect person in "Prisoner" reminded me of Hoobastank's "The Reason". But the melody for the chorus of "Prisoner" also vaguely reminded me of "Maniac" by Doyoung & Haechan (by Ryan Jhun).

I think I remember Yuta talking about needing to lean on others more for support on that one NCT 127 documentary I forgot the name of. Caitlin watched the whole thing. Was it The Lost Boys? Man, I don't remember the name, but I remember Yuta butting heads with Taeyong early on in their rookie years or something and yeah. They're really close now. Didn't Yuta, Taeyong and Johnny get matching tattoos for their friendship, too? Speaking of his love of rock, I wonder if he ever saw the performance for MAMA with the X-Japan guy (YOSHIKI, I think) on the piano for "Endless Rain" (with two TXT members)? I'm sure Yuta would have loved it because he also is friends with some of those guys. Yoooo, I want to hear Yuta do a short cover of X-Japan's "Silent Jealousy." Or "Blurry Eyes" by L'Arc~en~Ciel.

the amount of work put into those vocals? boy I'm beyond proud of him! I got reminded of classic rock bands like L'arc-en-Ciel & Luna Sea; blink-182, Green Day and even Oasis. Maybe it's been a long while since I'd listened to rock songs, so feelings of nostalgia just gushed out. oh, my youth lol Top 3: Last Song, Save You & Euphora

Yutas spoken a little about it on his radio! He mentioned some themes and inspiration for the lyrics. The core message really is about learning to be himself and being unafraid to be that. He's one of the most emotionally sensitive in NCT (there's a number of interviews 127 have brought it up) sensitive, but very private about struggles and usually wearing a smile through it all. He's mentioned a few times over the years, mostly in the past 2-3 yrs that his goal was to learn to lean on others more. He's such an honest personality, so unfiltered in recent years and authentic it's what really drew me to him as a bias in 127. He's got such a wise outlook and really is so proud of his emotional depth despite being told often his sensitivity is something to be rid of, he holds tight to it because he says he enjoys being so rich in emotion. He really shows his depth in this album with the lyrics and I couldn't be more proud of him. Every part of this album, the MV, the aesthetics, it all just screams YUTA.

This album was an absolute hit. I love the diversity in the NCT member's solos. LAST SONG is my top song but I also love Save you, and goodbye. this album has zero misses, I like this type of music so I knew if Yuta had a solo he would come through. Always love your reactions!

This album brings me to tears every time I listen to it. This album made me so proud of him. Hearing him sound so amazing, hearing the lyrics he wrote, and being able to experience Yuta the way Yuta wants wants to be experienced I felt like was such a privilege. I feel like we got to see a glimpse of the Yuta that Mark, Taeyong, Jaehyun and really all of 127 talk about. My favorites are Bad Euphoria, Prisoner, and Butterfly. Although I do go around my house constantly singing "Tonighhhttt I will show you my other sideeeee" lol

I was into J-Rock right before getting into Kpop. I love that Yuta went in this direction with his album. It's different from the NCT brand and feels true to himself and his passions. I still think my favorite song is Last Song, it's a great intro and mood setter to the rest of the album.

Until his release of 'Off The Mask" I hadn't even had a chance to get to know Yuta in my NCT journey yet (still stuck on TEN, Taeyong, Mark Lee, Jaehyun, Doyoung, and then got pulled into WayV). Now Yuta has skyrocketed onto the stage for me. I literally love every song on this album, and that is saying a lot because I have always been selective in what I am attracted to in rock music (being a predominately R&B and Hip Hop girl). It felt to me that his music takes some of the best that I love from Evanescence, Chris Daughtry, and A Day To Remember (with possibly a bit of Slipknot in the deep heavy metal screaming, but not my genre to pull from). Above everything, his vulnerable lyrics and full ownership of this rock journey has got me wanting to deep dive into knowing his story and seeing interviews. I'm a fan. Top 3 (not including Off The Mask): Butterfly, Euphoria, Goodbye.
