Many of us remember grieving the death of Kurt Cobain and being woken up by a couple of Manchester lads singing "You and I are gonna live forever." So Oasis reuniting is making us lose our collective minds, not to mention they were so dramatic we thought there was a better chance of Joy Division reuniting (RIP Ian Curtis.)
Demand for the Gallagher brothers reunion tour will absolutely dwarf that seen for Taylor Swift. Brits spent hours moving up the dreaded Ticketmaster queue, before “the whole site collapsed” at the last step, so we're already seeing that Swifties are not the only ones going after the worst monopoly in the world.
As I'm discussing this with the youths, my college-age niece said her friends got into The Smiths, recently. It appears Britpop and Post-punk are making a comeback. In the film world, reboots are still zombifying the masses. If you saw my Beetlejuice and Alien reviews, you'll note that I've been fighting my inner demons to not constantly scream about the capitalist marketing ploys and try to enjoy some of the nostalgia. So I ponder: why do we long for the past so hard?
Before we go back in time, let me to tell you what's happening for the coven in the present 🔮
DJ Bruja Radio is coming back October 7th for those that tend to get a case of the Mondays. Some of the genres we're exploring include pop en español, metal, horror movies, and of course, a full Halloween dance party 🎃
In case you missed it, I created a song inspired by Tangerine Dream & Carl Sagan. Also, the Hot Ones Challenge is up and I've resuscitated my YouTube. I may be talking about my favorite artists over there, like my Oasis stream where I included Liam Gallagher's best tweets using the word cunt 😏
Other than our movie watchalongs, music parties, and Q&A hangs, we're surviving through the second Presidential debate together on Discord. I regularly enjoy laughing at Donald Trump and the fascist freaks, but I need y'all to hold my hand while I watch gringos clap as Kamala Harris promises the 'most lethal' military in the world. Some say Obama-era hope is back, while forgetting about Obama-era drones 🇺🇸
Nostalgia is a comforting blanket, but it can also romanticize a past that never actually existed. I believe we've come a long way and there's actually been social progress all over the planet. It's also fact that many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, while both parties continue to invest in militarization and pushing this country to the right, so I hope there's more compassion for those suffering under the current administration. I also hope the orange wannabe king doesn't win and that everyone yelling at us for holding politicians accountable actually helps us, instead of going back to brunch.
As I was missing the honesty and authenticity of old-school mainstream artists like Oasis, Rage Against the Machine, and Fiona Apple, a new wave of artists is here to call out the bullshit. Amongst a sea of manufactured celebrity social feeds, it's been refreshing to watch self-made talent like Chappell Roan reject a White House invitation, and set boundaries against harassment and invasive "fan" behavior. From Massive Attack to Macklemore, we're seeing all kinds of musicians stand up against the war machine funded by our tax money. We need artists to tell the truth.
Even talented assholes like Morrissey should be allowed to tell their dumb truths. I can love and listen to The Smiths while thinking his political stances are rubbish. It's what Taoist philosophy talks about when it comes to the yin-yang, the balance and harmony between opposing forces. While we may miss the "simpler" times before technology, it's good that the new world we live in leaves little room for celebrity idolatry and that idiot beanie-wearing paid propagandists find out when they fuck around.
As Oasis said: "I think you’re the same as me, we see things they’ll never see." There's so much incredible classic and modern art that can help society progress instead of regress. So enjoy comforting entertainment, but make sure you also listen to music that tells the truth, watch movies that call out the bullshit, and help me take down Ticketmaster and the illusion of choice.
Thanks so much for being here. Wishing you all a joyful and cunty September ❤️
