Next Month's Content, Quest Fronts Zine, and Ironcrunch
Added 2021-04-29 20:34:07 +0000 UTCFor the next month, instead of three quest fronts, I will post one quest front (that will be public), three foes, and a preview of the cards of the Deck of Many Fortunes. This is to avoid an inflation of quest fronts before the release of the first issue of the magazine.
The foes will be added to their corresponding quest fronts, namely:
- Fire Salamander for Primordial Fire (Bond tier access)
- Iron Golem for Morg's Monolith (Bond tier access)
- Manticore for The Royal Hunt (Ally tier access)
The preview of the Deck of Many Fortune cards will be accessible by any patron tier.
Two assets will be posted as usual. I'm currently working based on Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition's spells to convert them into proper Ironsworn rituals. I will acknowledge in the post each asset which spells I took as a basis. In the future, these cards will be available as a print-on-demand deck via DriveThruRPG.
QUEST FRONTS ISSUE #1 UPDATE
The artist is still illustrating the quest fronts that will be released in the magazine's first issue. Once the cover art is ready, I'll hire another artist that will add color to it. If you take a look at every quest front posted so far (or the Quest Fronts Compendium if you're a Lorekeeper supporter), you will notice that every front has been updated with new art, and they will continue to be updated as new artwork get finished and incorporated in each front. In the meantime, I'm writing universal instructions to allow using these quest fronts in any other system; so these will come in the Quest Fronts issue #1.
The first issue of the Quest Fronts magazine will be pay-what-you-want, whereas the print-on-demand will have a cost of $6.99 (with the digital edition included). For patrons, a free discount will be provided for you to get it at the minimum cost of printing. The magazine will be A5 size with approximately 34 pages and will contain 6 quest fronts and a foe. Patrons will also be credited in the magazine.
I am also entertaining the idea of producing content for the science fiction genre so that there will also be content for the Ironsworn system compatible with Starforged. If that ever comes to fruition, the Quest Fronts magazine will have a sci-fi edition every now and then.
Needless to say, as soon as The Hills Press releases the Spanish version of Ironsworn, the Quest Fronts magazine will also be available in said language.
IRONCRUNCH
The Ironcrunch supplement has been on hiatus for a while now due to me being focused on the Quest Fronts magazine and the Deck of Many Fortunes; besides, the lack of playtesters doesn't assure me it is in a safe state for release.
Last month, I got feedback that the combat seems a bit intimidating when looking at the stat block of the bestiary entries, so I decided to simplify the system further by removing the mechanic of Protection (reductive defense) and many conditions. This implies reworking every item in the system. That has been done, but I'd still need to rework the bestiary before continuing to expand it. I have also been wanting to distance myself from this supplement to avoid stigmatization of the kind of content I produce. This is the reason the Ironcrunch playtest packages have not been updated with the latest changes.
PITCH YOUR STUFF
There are currently 15 quest fronts and 11 assets posted so far, and even though quest fronts are made on the go, there are a bunch of assets in drafts. Yet, I'd like to remind you that if you are a Bond or Lorekeeper supporter, you can pitch a quest front or asset and we can discuss it to make it happen. Don't let a desire to see something present in the Ironsworn system be thwarted. I'd love to see your idea and work on it.
