Dune 2021 - FULL LENGTH REACTION

Dune 2021 - FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

Such a great reaction from both of you as fellow book-readers! I loved it too and thought the casting was absolutely superb. I especially loved Duncan, Leto, and Kynes. LOVED the guy who played Jamis, and loved how Paul's visions gave us an alternate timeline where they were good friends -- it really made Jamis's death hit so much harder. The production and sound design is just unbelievable -- love the worms, the gorgeous dragonfly 'thopters, the shields and dunes, everything. Loved the Sardaukar throat-singing and the incredibly strange soundtrack. Can't wait for Dune 2!

Seeing you mister, seeing you not able to control yourself when they showed the exploding sand scene from the first worm… that was the shit. (Warning: the preceding should not be read by those offended by the word Shit n such).

This reaction was the trigger that made us pull the... uh.. trigger, to getting on. y'all's patreon. So happy to see it, and others you've already done.

I totally agree. The amount of information that is thrown at the viewer can be confusing. I found myself struggling to understand some of it at times and I have read the first book - although that was some 30 odd years ago - watched Lynch's version many times and played the PC games. Still, I think thanks to splitting the story in two parts and having much more time to expose the viewer to all the information, they did a far better job at it than in the 1984 movie. Watching it along with you was a lot of fun and this adaptation of the book is one of the best movies, I have ever seen. I urge you to go watch it on the big screen, its even better.

I'm not sure that the spider being Dr. Yueh's wife makes sense or not because he didn't say, "They're tearing her apart like a dog." He said "They'll tear her apart like a DOLL." So if that theory is based solely on that line, the spider being his wife wouldn't really make sense. But this is coming from someone who hasn't read much of the book, and doesn't really know if there's a possibility of that built into the story. Agreed though, the movie looks and sounds fabulous. Mindblowingly gorgeous. I didn't read a lot of the book, and I was able to understand the movie and the story just fine, but then I've seen the 1984 movie, and I've heard so much of the story through pop culture, so I don't know if I would have understood it if not for that. I have seen several people who saw film and didn't read the book spend the entire time being confused. Too much thrown at them, too many weird names and words to learn for them. But I got it. I thought it was a great adaptation, and i can see lovers of the book being absolutely in love with this. Take that whatever way you will. I loved it, and it was great to see it with you.
