Basically, the little merchants seem to be collaborating with someone to be a pain in Tempest's side. Gard didn't recognize these smaller merchants meaning they didn't come from the usual circles in the west at least. The larger merchants who knew Gard would probably accept credit and repayment as funds became available, basic cash flow issues. Rimuru suggested that they simply use raw gold. Probably spend the next two days melting down some of the treasure in Clayman's booty snatch... heh heh... and literally liquify those assets. Rimuru figured if they added a little extra raw gold to the amount paid to offset the hassle of converting gold back to a standard currency it should placate the smaller merchants. Gard agrees with the idea on the surface, but it sets a bad precedent that Tempest will overpay whenever a merchant gets testy. So, liquidating Clayman's ass-ets is taken off the table and the issue is tabled... for.... reasons.
