The Gaunican Rebellion brought about unprecedented collaboration between the nomadic tribes of the Gaunican Plateau. These scattered bands were finally unified under one cause and one leader, Draedica the Unfellable. In their rally against the imperialist Lurzians to the west, Draedica and her fellow horselords conscripted thousands of civilians to build impromptu outposts throughout their defensible territory, hoping to stifle the advancing imperials.

These structures started as rough lean-tos, fated to break under any half-hearted siege, but as the horselords continued to pillage the townships along the River Ivan, their pockets filled and they gained access to sturdier materials. Before all was said and done, Draedica’s people had erected 44 structures, all uniquely outfitted, yet unified by some intangible factor.

Though their efforts were admirable, this Gaunican ingenuity was simply not enough to withstand the overwhelming numbers of the Lurzians, who took control of the outposts one by one, burning many to the ground in the process. The Gaunican Rebellion eviscerated the native population, with Lurzian legions killing over 90% of the Gaunican nomads during the conflict.

Today, the surviving outposts are among the oldest permanent structures built on the Gaunican Plateau, and many are used to this day, serving as castles for up-and-coming nobles or outposts for the Lurzian military. So long as they stand, the hisory of the Gaunican nomads will not be forgotten. Nor will the atrocities of the Lurzian crown…
